What Karl Rove Should Tell La Raza
Human Events ^ | 07/10/06 | The Human Events View

Posted on 07/10/2006 5:42:12 PM PDT by garbageseeker

White House adviser Karl Rove is scheduled to speak tomorrow at the annual conference of the federally funded, left-wing, open-borders-advocacy group, the National Council of La Raza.

If he does not want his speech to look like an act of appeasement, he should confront La Raza on its opposition to commonsense policies designed to secure both U.S. borders and U.S. pocketbooks.

La Raza, which means “The Race” in Spanish, has denounced as “horrendous” and “appalling” the House immigration bill passed in December, which was sponsored by Judiciary Chairman James Sensenbrenner (R.-Wis.) and supported by the overwhelming majority of House Republicans. The bill, which calls for tough worksite enforcement of immigration laws and 700 miles of border fencing, was condemned by La Raza as a “laundry list of mean-spirited and intrusive provisions concocted by the most radical immigrations restrictionists in Congress.”

Will Rove defend the immigration reforms passed by President Bush’s party in the House and tell La Raza that House Republicans are neither “mean-spirited” nor “radical”? He should. House Republicans deserve Rove’s support.

She has a lot more weight than you do in this subject.

Consider the misinformation I've seen you post on just THIS thread, that's not much of a recommendation.

So, the failed 1986 amnesty wasn't a mistake?

Well in a word no. However assuming it was a mistake it is one that GW hasn't made.

Most Hispanic citizens don't like illegal immigration but the rhetoric against it has become so red hot by the likes of Tancredo and King

You see rhetoric in Tancredo and King, but I see rhetoric in LaRaza and MEChA.

I know you agree with the former and not the latter, so my problem lies in the fact that some seem more willing to dismiss the "other team's" actions to court as many "free agents" as possible while slamming their own team's starting lineup.

NO I am saying that politics IS pandering. Hells bells the GOP has been "pandering" to the religious right for decades on Everything from abortion to Gay Marriage.

Pandering is one thing, respecting one's base is another. I believe the democrats pander, and that even they don't always believe what they are saying in their platforms and positions. They will say almost anything because they know their schmucks will eat it up. I'm not sure the GOP is "pandering" to the Religious Right, because on many issues, they actually believe what they're saying.

In fact, Republicans are certainly not pandering to the Conservative base, especially when it comes to the "elite" CoUNTry club republican't RINOs like Whitman, Kean, Graham, Specter, and others continually disrespecting the, well, religious right, for example.

...and as much as you guys hate it we need at least one minority group that isn't one hundred percent in the democrats pockets

I am not part of any "you guys," but I do hate when the Republicans think they can out democrat-Democrats with a population not fully assimilated, and getting worse with every illegal immigrant entering the country, confusing the issue. Remember, many of the little darlings marching (or is that bullying?) in LA back in May were legal, American Hispanics influenced by those here illegally, (including many of their parents) who came here looking for "incentives".

we need at least one minority group that isn't one hundred percent in the democrats pockets

The problem with your statement is that you view minorites as a commodity, as something to collect, win or obtain. I look at minorities as people.

And to truly treat minorities fairly, and to ensure the survival of one's own nation, you drastically reduce immigration, and let the ones currently here (fewer in numbers) assimilate, and then you can win over these AMERICANS with ideas, not hand-outs.

Congress messed up in 1986.

They failed to provide any new mechanisms for individuals to enter and work legally, thus ensuring another buildup of the illegal population.

A guest worker program IS border control.

Pandering is one thing, respecting one's base is another.

Baloney you aren't talking about the "base" you are talking about people that wouldn't vote for a republican if their lives depended on it.

maybe one day boundaries all over the earth will disappear as people cross boundaries and find out that, yes, there is a brotherhood of man in every corner.

You emphasized the wrong part of the paragraph.

Here, is the one spot on earth where we have the brotherhood of man. And maybe as we continue with this proudly, this brotherhood of man made up from people representative of every corner of the earth,...

The "Brotherhood of Man" cannot and will not be realized without a strong and sovereign America.

I love that, it's particularly meaningful to me.

I came to the United States, and I became an American.

Swore my oath of citizenship on July 4th, 1976, and cast my first vote a few years later for one Ronald Wilson Reagan.

I've never looked back.
