In the Northeast woodlands the most feared and hated nation was the Iroquois — especially the Mohawk and Seneca. The Algonquian speaking nations and Iroquoian speaking Huron were particular enemies of the Iroquois. In the 1640s, the Iroquois unleashed a virtual genocide on the other Nations of the region, one that was not quickly forgotten. The Ojibwa defeated a number of the Iroquois incursions and ran the Sioux out of their forested homeland onto the plains. The Ojibwa (Chippewa and associated bands) occupied more land than any other tribe ever has from Manitoba to Indiana and took over smaller tribes...

Hoffman said elections director Lynn Constabile, who had worked for the county for 18 years, was leaving for the same reason, The Post reported. Constabile did not immediately respond to Insider's request for comment.

PHOENIX (3TV/CBS 5) -- Hospitals are slammed across Arizona. The state is asking the federal government for help with staffing, and Yavapai County is so inundated, it's running out of room at its morgue. Thursday, Yavapai County Community Health Services said it's requesting a refrigerated truck because so many people are dying from COVID. Their morgue is close to capacity, and they need to be prepared. In Maricopa County, public health leaders said it's not that bad here yet, although they are watching those numbers closely. "January marks two years from the first COVID-19 case in Maricopa County," said Marcy...

Mayor-elect Jack Wilson deserves kudos for convening his ex-officio task force on immigration this past week even before he takes office. At least it's a recognition of how serious the problem is. All of the usual suspects showed up with all of the usual comments, to wit: • City Attorney Gary Kidd said anything the city does to fight illegal immigration likely will elicit a federal or civil libertarian legal challenge. He's right, but that's exactly why the city should push. For the past 50 years, the Washington establishment has done nothing about the problem while zealously claiming exclusive jurisdiction....
