Republican candidates were heavily favored over their Democratic opponents among full-time workers and most college-educated Americans, a CNN exit poll shows. During the midterm elections Tuesday, CNN asked voters leaving the voting booth a series of questions, including, “Do you work full-time for pay?” About 60 percent responded that they did work full-time for pay. Of those, 54 percent said they had voted for a Republican, while 44 percent stated they voted for a Democrat. Another two percent reported voting for “other” candidates. Of the 40 percent who said they did not work full-time for pay, 48 percent said they...

More than 25,000 federal employees will lose their health plans next year as insurance providers drop out of the government’s coverage network, according to the Office of Personnel Management. Affected workers will have the option of switching to other plans within the Federal Employees Health Benefits Program, but the number of disruptions will reach the highest level since more than 61,000 enrollees had to change plans in 2009. Insurance providers drop out of the federal workforce’s health program every year, so this year’s changes are nothing new. Companies generally leave the network because they have not attracted enough enrollees to...

The Obama administration is considering imposing a forced quarantine on healthcare workers who return to the United States from the Ebola hot zone of West Africa, after a New York doctor who treated patients there tested positive for the virus on Thursday. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention spokesman Tom Skinner told Reuters on Friday that a mandatory quarantine is one possible plan under discussion by officials from across the administration. 'There are a number of options being discussed pertaining to the monitoring and mobility of healthcare workers who are returning to the United States from affected countries,' Skinner said.

The city known as America’s story factory is making up Census data. In the latest allegation of The Post’s exclusive probe into fishy goings-on at the Census Bureau, a new whistleblower says workers in the Los Angeles region have been manipulating economic data. Contact information for the veteran Census worker — who reached out to me by e-mail recently and whom I interviewed by phone — has been turned over to congressional investigators who are looking into data falsification in other parts of the country. “Everybody knows falsification is going on,” the whistleblower told me, adding the malfeasance in the

Tens of thousands of federal workers are being kept on paid leave for at least a month — and often for longer stretches that can reach a year or more — while they wait to be punished for misbehavior or cleared and allowed to return to work, government records show. During a three-year period that ended last fall, more than 57,000 employees were sent home for a month or longer. The tab for these workers exceeded $775 million in salary alone. The extensive use of administrative leave continues despite government personnel rules that limit paid leave for employees facing discipline...

The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) on Monday said it "would not be surprised" if other healthcare workers at a Dallas hospital are diagnosed with Ebola. CDC Director Tom Frieden said he did not know how many workers might have been exposed to the virus, but estimated it was a "relatively large number." "We’re concerned, and unfortunately would not be surprised if we did see additional cases in healthcare workers who also provided care to the index patient," Frieden said. A nurse at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital was found to have Ebola over the weekend. Her case is the first-ever...

BERLIN — When Marie Duness-Rose, 39, immigrated to Germany from Bulgaria 10 years ago, she left a lot behind, she says. But now she holds a management degree and runs a thriving bistro serving Balkan food in a popular neighborhood in Berlin. She is one of about 6.2 million non-German citizens in the country and one of about 15 million — or 19 percent of the total population — who are not ethnically German. That percentage is one of the highest proportions of immigrants in any European country, and it is not expected to decrease any time soon. Last month,...

CNSNews.com) - A record 92,269,000 Americans 16 and older did not participate in the labor force in August, as the labor force participation rate matched a 36-year low of 62.8 percent, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. The labor force participation rate has been as low as 62.8 percent in six of the last twelve months, but prior to last October had not fallen that low since 1978. BLS employment statistics are based on the civilian noninstitutional population, which consists of all people 16 or older who were not in the military or an institution such as a prison,...

A report released Wednesday by researchers at USC found that immigrants who are in California illegally make up nearly 10% of the state's workforce and contribute $130 billion annually to its gross domestic product. The study, which was conducted in conjunction with the California Immigrant Policy Center, was based on census data and other statistics, including data from the Department of Labor and the Department of Homeland Security. It looked at a variety of ways the estimated 2.6 million immigrants living in California without permission participate in state life. FOR THE RECORD Sept. 3, 4:20 p.m.: An earlier version of...

<p>Time was, they had fact-checkers at the White House. They must've had the weekend off when President Obama let go a whopper at a Labor Day rally in Milwaukee.</p>
<p>'By almost every measure," he boasted, "the American economy and American workers are better off than when I took office." This must explain why nearly half of American workers believe the U.S. is still in a recession.</p>

A short gig doing security for the True Blood television show. A stint driving for a rental car company. A week as a customer service representative at a retail store. This is how Delvontaie Antwine, 34, makes do in California's economic recovery — earning a few scattered paychecks a month from odd temp jobs while living with relatives in Silver Lake. Each week, he goes to a career center, where recently he was looking into positions transporting patients for Kaiser Permanente. "I just need something consistent; otherwise, I'm like a puppy chasing its tail," he said. "I'm at the bottom...

How’s that feminism workin’ out for ya? According to a survey reported in a Psychology Today article, the unhappiest workers are:Female 42 years oldUnmarriedHave a household income under $100,000Work in a professional position (i.e., as a doctor or a lawyer). Sounds exactly like the feminist ideal: a woman who needs a man like a fish needs a bicycle. On her own, independent, unburdened, I am woman, hear me roar. Except that she’s not very happy. The author, Sherrie Bourg Carter, Psy.D., notes that while it is possible the survey is inaccurate (the sample size is only 670 North American white...

Most employees believe they have no say when it comes to changes in the workplace that directly affect their jobs. Six out of ten corporate staff said they have little or no input in decisions which affect them personally at work, according to a recent survey by Strayer University and Ipsos. Those over 35 felt their opinions mattered less than those workers aged 18-34 - although perhaps that's just a healthy dose of cynicism that comes from spending longer on the corporate ladder.

WMBF in Myrtle Beach, SC, reported Wednesday on the growing trend of businesses hiring only part-time workers, due to an inability to afford Obamacare. This situation leaves workers without healthcare and without a full-time income or other benefits. Local staffing agencies say more small business are starting to hire more part time employees. Not because there is more full time work, but as WMBF reporter Mandy Noell found out, it's because they can't afford to have more full time employees. Obamacare places requirements for health care benefits that many small businesses just cannot afford to pay. As a result, they...

AMESBURY, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) – An Amesbury man says someone sprayed offensive graffiti near his home on a beam that is part of a construction project, which was brought to a screeching halt due to the vandalism. Scott Taylor lives just feet from where a massive bridge project is happening on Interstate 95, and he says construction workers have been scattering debris all over his yard for almost a year. He woke up to the graffiti this week and that sent him over the edge. The message? “Welcome to Fallujah, baby.” "I think it's pathetic. I think it's cowardly. And I...

Though officials at the World Health Organization are feverishly working to stop the spread of the Ebola virus in what is now seven African nations, their efforts may be for naught. In Guinea, a hot spot for the deadly contagion, government health officials have said that the outbreak is nearly under control. Yet, Reuters reports that the government “planned to stop publicly releasing the death toll to avoid causing unnecessary panic.” But panic may be in order. Despite the best efforts of emergency health workers it appears that virus may have crossed out of Africa into Europe.

In the last presidential election, Mitt Romney was savaged by the media and the cultural elites for pointing out that 47 percent of voters will vote for Obama as they're getting subsidies from the federal, state, or local governments. Romney was vilified as an evil, out-of-teach aristocrat that despised the less fortunate. The truth is the exact opposite as we know that Romney gives generously to the charity, unlike Obama and his progressive liberal allies, and that he created companies that actually hired people and paid them wages, again unlike most liberals. The 47 percent number was mocked as not...
