Is David Wirsing, the state representative from Sycamore, going to declare that he is a Democrat? That's what I've heard around town here in DeKalb. Seems fitting, doesn't it? The fella's been a Republican in Name Only for his entire tenure in the legislature, and, in my opinion, his move to the Democrat party is nothing short of "truth in advertising" for the first time in his career. If this is true, I say, "hurrah, Davie." We need more Democrats like you.

Representative David Wirsing (R-Sycamore) is reportedly depressed over the challenge being made by another Republican against him in the primary election next March, and has told friends that he is considering retiring early. "He can't take the pressure anymore," said one friend of Wirsing, who lives in Sycamore. "He's had the field all to himself for 10 years, without any challenge, ever. One of the worst things about politics is mislabeling. It used to be that a Republican was a conservative and a Democrat was a liberal. Not so anymore. There are a lot of Republicans in Name Only (RINO) these days, and quite a few Democrats in Name Only (DINO) too. The problem is that DINOs are radical lefties, but RINOs are actually Democrats. I am writing in response to your excellent coverage of the race for the Illinois House seat in DeKalb County ["House GOP primary challenger to announce on Friday," August 27].
