Gloria Williams is accused of leaving her three sons in a Houston apartment with the remains of their eight-year-old dead brother, Kendrick Lee. Officials say that she also received additional assistance for the older daughter, for a total of around $2,000 per month in aid.

The hosts of The View went after Dr. Deborah Birx of President Trump’s coronavirus task force team, Monday, after she scolded the media for continuing to wail about Trump’s disinfectant remark from last Thursday’s briefing. Sunny Hostin attacked Birx for not following the media’s orders, while Whoopi Goldberg claimed Trump’s sloppy remarks made him on the same level as a Nazi death camp doctor. Goldberg began by worrying kids were going to be "injecting disinfectant" into their bodies. Hostin falsely claimed that Trump had provoked a spike in calls to poison control centers (actually, they’ve been up since March): “There...

My name is Christine, and I get food stamps. I've had to apply off and on over the past 16 years in order to make sure my family was fed. I don't feel the least bit ashamed of myself for this, but apparently some people think I should. Some people think I, and people like me, am lazy. Or that we're taking advantage of other (smarter, harder-working) people. Those people seem to have an image in their heads of how someone who "deserves" assistance behaves, and a very narrow idea of how we should feel about it. Those people are...

The drug-addled mother of Bella Bond watched her boyfriend swath the tot's lifeless body in a garbage bag and stuff her in their refrigerator before the Dorchester couple went on a days-long heroin binge, a prosecutor said today. "She was a demon and this was her time to die," Michael P. McCarthy, 35, and a fanatic of the occult, told Rachelle D. Bond, 40, one terrible day in May as he stood over Bella in the 2 1/2-year-old child's bedroom, according to assistant Suffolk District Attorney David Deakin. McCarthy, his long blond hair spilling over his shoulders, was held without...

The bill for the summer-work vacation of first lady Michelle Obama, accompanied to England and Italy by her daughters, mom, and staff, should easily top her entourage's 2010 trip to Spain that cost an eye-popping $467,000. While the White House didn't provide cost estimates for the week-long visit to London, Milan, Venice, and Vincenza, Italy, the State Department put lodging costs for just a couple nights in Venice at $128,781, according to Free Beacon, and Air Force charges based on a 2012 document for flying her group on past overseas trips indicate that this one will hit $243,000.

California Democrats are trying to reverse a decades-old state law that bars families from getting extra welfare money for having an additional child, describing the law as "sexist" and "classist" -- despite concerns that repealing it could compound the state's money woes. The so-called "welfare queen" law was passed two decades ago during the heyday of welfare reform. At the time, Democrats were in charge of the state legislature and Republican Pete Wilson was governor. Today, Democrats are still in charge, but the base of support for the law is fading.

When Eugene Jenkins showed up at St. Paul AME Church at 1:30 a.m. Wednesday, he didn’t know he would be one of the last people to get a ticket for assistance with his heating bill.He waited in line until 7 a.m., when officials started to hand out the tickets, then went home for a few hours before returning at 10 a.m. By the time he had finished up his paperwork, it was 1:15 p.m., making for a long day. Jenkins was one of the lucky ones in Macon, though. Other people were turned away because the Macon-Bibb County Economic Opportunity...

The New York Democrat is known for his often passionate and attention-grabbing remarks.
