  • How could American Oil Companies lower the price? Or Could they?

Could American Oil Companies lower the price of Oil, even if they wanted? The last figures I saw showed that American oil companies controlled 25% of the world market and 40% of the US Market. Let's say that under Congressional pressure all of America's oil companies got together and said they were going to sell their oil at $50 per barrel. What would happen? My thought is that the rest of the world would immediately buy up all their output to resell at the world price and then nothing else would change. Anyone have any other scenarios?

You read about that poor, sweet little old welfare lady with the hardwood floors and BIG SCREEN TV forced to live in the slums of New Orleans. But it turns out, she might not be so sweet after all

Life long republican - Drive by troll
All my life, I believed in Republican values -- individual responsibility and limited government. Then it happened; I found myself with a small child, unemployed and disabled. I turned to my church, and after years of regular tithes, suddenly I just wasn't their problem. My Republican friends? I was now a pariah to them. My only relief was to turn to government assistance for housing, food, and other needs and I was able to survive with dignity. So chalk me up as one who no longer drinks the GOP koolaid.
  • Cape hurricane evacuee gives birth to a son (13th child)

Add another name to the list of residents at the Cape Cod military base where evacuees from Hurricane Katrina are staying. But this one didn't need a plane to get there. Dionne White of New Orleans gave birth Tuesday at Falmouth Hospital to a boy whom she named Cape Cod Bannister, or C.C. for short. It's the first birth to an evacuee staying at Camp Edwards. "I named him that because I love Cape Cod," White told The Boston Globe. "Coming here has been a big break for me. It's like Christmas, just a big old miracle. And you don't...

WHILE millions of Americans know the conspiracies behind who killed JFK and why Elvis is living in a trailer park in Port Orange, Fla., I don't waste my time with such theories. Instead, I live my life and judge people on their athletic footwear. I call it the Sneaker Theory. .... When I started working in public service, part of my job was writing vouchers for people who couldn't afford groceries. As I sat at my desk and filled out the number of people in a house and what food they needed, I would drop my pen so I could...

BRING GIS HOME: W. By Deborah Orin August 17, 2004 -- WASHINGTON -- President Bush yesterday unveiled plans to bring home up to 70,000 troops from Europe and Asia, with the biggest chunk coming out of Germany. Democratic rival John Kerry's allies instantly opposed the idea. "The world has changed a great deal and our posture must change with it," Bush said as he revealed plans for a massive shift of troops that he said will make it easier to strike fast against terror and easier on military families. "Our service members will have more time on the home...
  • Mark Steyn: Do you want to sing Waterloo or fight it?

'We won't come back till it's over/Over There!' sang America's doughboys, marching off to war in 1917. In the Second World War, they had other songs to sing, which is just as well because, even though the World War was over over there 60 years ago, and the Cold War was over 15 years ago, only now are the Yanks heading home. In the largest military realignment in years, Washington plans to withdraw 70,000 troops plus 100,000 family members and support personnel from overseas US bases. That means, for the most part, from Europe. This will undoubtedly be welcome news...
