It’s an Obama world. US taxpayers will end up footing the bill to pay the Iranian regime to inspect their own nuclear sites. Joshua Katz: The American taxpayer has been set up to fail by this administration. I don’t think anyone had a belief that this deal with Iran was set up for success. But now we’re seeing that the United States is going to pay the lion’s share for monitoring… Stuart Varney: So our taxpayer money is actually going to go directly to the Iranians at some point. Some of it is going straight to them, right? Joshua Katz:...

American Taxpayers: Meet Your New Friends And Neighbors The Greeks Fred N. Sauer, Fred Sauer Matrix Jul. 11, 2011, 5:33 PM America expended tens of thousands of lives and immeasurable national treasure, including the Marshall Plan, during and after World War II to liberate and rebuild Europe. The United States also defended Europe throughout the Cold War while they pinched their defense budgets and capabilities in favor of massive social expenditures. With the bailouts of Europe just beginning, it looks like we might get entrapped in Europe again: Greece shook global markets, intensifying fears of a default, as tens of...

With the federal government facing trillions of dollars in red ink, one might think that the United States Institute of Peace (USIP), which receives upwards of $30 million a year from the taxpayers, would want to show Congress it wasn't squandering money on propaganda for terrorist groups like Hamas. But that hasn't happened.

The cleanup of Vieques will not be a New Year priority here for the Calderon administration, at least not until after May 1, when the Navy is supposed to end its exercises on the small island, Resident Commissioner Anibal Acevedo Vila has indicated. Congressional action on Vieques is now "closed" - as far as the Navy exiting the island is concerned, said the resident commissioner. He did not foresee trying to rally help for the cleanup in Congress for many months, if at all. "After May, we will have to sit down with federal agencies to talk about a cleanup,"...

Urban Train-related negotiations between Siemens Transportation Partnership and the Highway Authority have stretched out for a second day. Representatives from both parties have been meeting since Tuesday in the Urban Train's offices in Hato Rey to settle on how much money the government will pay the German company to have the first phase of the train fully operational by September 2003. The government is hoping that a 2003 completion date will help it secure $400 million in federal funds to add new routes to the electric train system. A source close to Siemens said both parties have agreed on $70...

Vieques environmentalists say a government-planned recreational area on the small island's south coast threatens the heart of a unique and fragile ecosystem and a rare bioluminescent bay. But while activists voice their concerns about potential environmental danger there, the Puerto Rican government, it seems, is listening. The Puerto Rico National Parks Department aims to develop a "vacation center" targeted at middle-class families at the Sun Bay public beach. The plan consists of a two-part process, according to National Parks Executive Director Ramon Nieves. First, the existing public beach facilities, about a half mile east of Esperanza, will be renovated, and...

The USDA Rural Development Puerto Rico announced Thursday the availability of $31 million in federal funds to aid the economic development of rural communities. This is the first time the Bush administration has assigned funding through the USDA for these types of projects, agency officials said. Of the amounts, $19 million has been set aside for grants to develope essential community facilities in eligible areas "with extreme high unemployment and severe economic depression," said Jose Otero Garcia, state director for USDA Rural Development Puerto Rico. The facilities could be childcare centers offering services not available through the municipal government, the...

Multinational corporations that buy and sell water and water services are seeking public utilities in the industrialized world for what they hope will be guaranteed profits. In the United States, towns and cities are flirting with water privatization as a way to pass on the costs of upgrading their aging utility infrastructure. But water is unique. Unlike electricity, natural gas or telecommunications, everyone needs water to survive. Nonetheless, local officials worldwide are negotiating deals in private with companies that view a government-guaranteed monopoly on water as the ultimate deal. In their zeal to embrace white knights, local water boards...
