COLUMBUS, NEW MEXICO (Border Report) — Fifteen-year-old Luna Robledo, whose first name means moon, in Spanish, gets up in the moonlight around 5:45 a.m. every morning to prepare breakfast for her and her 11-year-old brother, who she has to rouse for school every weekday. Both of their schools are in the United States, in Deming, New Mexico, about 45 miles from their home in Palomas, Mexico... I blogged about the case in February, when the Ninth Circuit panel opinion came down; here’s an excerpt, which summarizes the issue: Today’s Dariano v. Morgan Hill Unified School Dist. (9th Cir. Feb. 27, 2014) upholds a California high school’s decision to forbid students from wearing American flag T-shirts on Cinco de Mayo. (See here and here for more on this case.) The court points out that the rights of students in public high schools are limited — under the Supreme Court’s decision in Tinker v. Des Moines Indep. Comm. School Dist. (1969), student speech could be restricted if “school...

JERUSALEM – A Muslim Brotherhood-linked organization has partnered with the U.S. Department of Education and the State Department to facilitate an online program aiming to connect all U.S. schools with classrooms abroad by 2016. Vartan Gregorian, a board member of the organization, the Qatar Foundation International, was appointed in 2009 to President Obama’s White House Fellowships Commission. WND previously exposed that Gregorian served as a point man in granting $49.2 million in startup capital to an education-reform project founded by former Weather Underground terrorist William Ayers and chaired by Obama. Documentation shows Gregorian was central in Ayers’ recruitment of Obama...

Comparatively speaking, the United States does not starve its education system of revenue. The U.S. is one of the leaders in spending on Education, and yet it's schools are rated "average" by international bodies. The three-yearly OECD Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) report, which compares the knowledge and skills of 15-year-olds in 70 countries around the world, ranked the United States 14th out of 34 OECD countries for reading skills, 17th for science and a below-average 25th for mathematics.Worse, out of 34 OECD countries, only 8 have a lower high school graduation rate. The United States' education outcomes most resemble...

TAMPA -- A transcript made from videotapes the FBI seized from controversial University of South Florida professor Sami Al-Arian's home seven years ago quote him at conferences saying "Death to Israel" and referring to Jews as "monkeys and pigs." The transcript is an English translation of Al-Arian and several other Palestinian leaders speaking in Arabic at pro-Palestinian rallies in various U.S. cities from 1988 to 1992. The video footage depicts snippets from each conference and runs about 13 minutes, culled from about 1,500 hours of videotape evidence seized during FBI raids in 1995. Many of the statements have been previously...
