Joe Perry hinted the other day that Aerosmith might replace Steven Tyler after the lead singer said he was going to focus on "brand Tyler." If that was a tactic to get Tyler to commit to Aerosmith, it worked. Tyler was a surprise guest at the Joe Perry Project show at the Fillmore in New York last night. According to Rolling Stone online, Tyler reportedly came out and said that he wasn't leaving the band, adding "Joe Perry, you are a man of many colors. But I, (expletive), am the rainbow!” He then sang lead on "Walk This Way." Later,...

Courtesy of NME.com - Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry has said that singer Steven Tyler has quit the band "as far as I can tell." Perry's comments follow those of rhythm guitarist Brad Whitford, who last week (November 6) said that Aerosmith are to hold crisis talks about their future after relations with Tyler became strained. Now Perry has confirmed that Tyler is unlikely to perform with the band again.

Thanks to an intrepid blogger with the tag Trapdoc posting a letter to Mark Steyn, the search for the Wikipedia Libelist responsible for damaging posts to the Rush Limbaugh account has been narrowed to the IP address of a New York City law firm: "The quotes were added by a user with the IP address of 69.64.213.146. This address has been used mostly to make changes to the article about Rush, but also Karl Rove, Sean Hannity,.. James Dobson and Sara Palin from 2005 until earlier this year. "While others have noted this in various forums, no one seems to...

TYLER – The No. 1 Blinn Buccaneers notched their fifth win with a 60-31 defeat of Tyler Junior College. The Bucs had been down by two touchdowns twice in the first half, but starting the third quarter, scored on fourth and goal from the two to take their first lead and turn the tide. The Apaches scored on their first four possessions starting with a 49-yard pass play from Vincent McNeil to Jabroski Smiley. After quarterback Cameron Newton fumbled in TJC territory on Blinn’s first possession, the Apaches capitalized with McNeil tossing 24 yards to Jamaal Johnson to go up...

STURGIS, S.D. — Aerosmith's Steven Tyler suffered head, neck and shoulder injuries in a tumble from the stage at a South Dakota show, a concert spokesman said Thursday, and the audience thought it was part of his hipshaking act until he didn't get up. Tyler, 61, fell while entertaining the crowd by dancing around as the sound crew replaced a fuse that blew during the song "Love in an Elevator," said Mike Sanborn, spokesman for the Buffalo Chip Campground, which hosted the Wednesday night concert. An amateur video showed him spinning around before falling off the stage.

"... not one, but two, of President John Tyler's grandsons are still alive."
-
As a boy, Harrison Tyler never gave much thought to his grandfather, John Tyler, the 10th president of the United States. "I grew up during World War II," he told Subaru Drive Magazine in 2002, "and surviving the war and the shortages was what was on everybody's mind. Being related to a president was never a thought." Such a view may seem astonishing, but President Tyler died in 1862, 66 years before his grandson was born. In fact, Harrison Tyler's father, Lyon Gardiner Tyler, was born in 1853 and died in 1935, so there were very few first-hand accounts of...

Human nature has a blind spot. We often detect external flaws faster than internal ones—seeing the speck in our neighbor’s eye sooner than the beam in our own, to use the biblical metaphor. This same tendency exists at the national level. Such blindness can be fatal, as Ralph Waldo Emerson warned when he wrote, “A nation never falls but by suicide.” In America today, we readily perceive the dangers posed by international terrorism, hostile foreign regimes, uncontrolled immigration, the global narco-gangsters, etc. It is the threat within that seems to be off the radar screen. The fall of Rome and...

An East Texas teenager says he was attacked at school for wearing a political t-shirt. On Friday, Robert E. Lee student Ryan Oster says he wore a NO-bama shirt. He says two black students threatened him, telling him to take it off. He says he went to the restroom to take it off, but was attacked anyway. "As soon as I got it off, this one kid pushed me into one of the bathroom stalls and started hitting me in my face a couple of times and my ribs and my chest," said Oster. "My son couldn't even go to...

For Peyton Gilbert, the battle over the Trans-Texas Corridor is reminiscent of the moment in 1836 when Lt. Col. William Travis drew a line in the sand at the Alamo and invited those willing to fight thousands of Mexican soldiers to step across. "That line in the sand is the Trans-Texas Corridor, and it's a threat to our sovereignty again, just like at the Alamo," said Gilbert, 14, who is from Whitehouse, near Tyler. Gilbert was among a large crowd of people who marched down Congress Avenue to the Capitol on Saturday afternoon to demonstrate against the proposed highway-rail-utility corridor...

TYLER - Heated debates are cropping up in rural East Texas communities as the Texas Department of Transportation hold hearings on the proposed the Trans-Texas Corridor. It's the first construction project of it's kind in the country. The Texas Department of Transportation says they want it to make room for a growing state. "A thousand people a day move to texas," says spokesman Larry Krantz,"where are these people going to drive? The population in Texas is going to explode by 60% in the year 2030." Their plans involve moving commercial trucks off existing interstate highways and onto one of two...

Local residents who want to add their two cents about the proposed Interstate 69 construction won't have to fill their tanks to do it. TxDOT is coming to Longview. The Texas Department of Transportation is holding 46 public hearings this month in East and South Texas along the planned corridor, including Tuesday's meeting in Longview. The hearings will give Texans a chance to comment and ask questions about the proposed Interstate 69/Trans-Texas Corridor, a collection of passenger and freight roadways, utility and rail lines from Texarkana to the Rio Grande Valley. A draft environmental impact statement released in November suggests...

A follow up on the East Texas Marine that had his car stolen. 20 year old Blake Weller, a Marine from Whitehouse, is on leave and, just three days ago, his car was stolen along with his uniform and medals, including a purple heart. Police were able to get his car back and now the suspected thief is in jail. But Blake said he is still missing the thing most important to him. About 5:45am Monday morning Blake received quite a wake up call. "I received a phone call from Tyler PD and they said they have recovered my car...

Toll roads will not solve Texas' roadway woes, state Sen. Kevin Eltife, R-Tyler, told the Tyler Area Chamber of Commerce board of directors on Tuesday. The state must take care of its infrastructure needs, and Eltife said he has always supported indexing the gasoline tax to inflation to ensure funding to handle those needs. "I think we need to get back to the basics in this state and pay for road and bridge improvements," he said. "We ought to index the gas tax to inflation, we should build our own roads," Eltife said. "The toll roads are a piece of...

Steven Tyler has apparently been living on the edge more than he previously let on. In an interview with Access Hollywood set to air Tuesday night, Aerosmith's sinewy singer reveals that he has quietly been battling hepatitis C, a blood-borne infection that can potentially lead to fatal liver damage, including cirrhosis or liver cancer. Per the New York Daily News, the 58-year-old Tyler tells host Nancy O'Dell that he was diagnosed three years ago but had contracted hepatitis C several years earlier without manifesting any symptoms. He subsequently endured a year's worth of pills and injections containing the antiviral drug...

Last night my son's 15 year old friend was struck and killed by lightening. Tyler was such a good boy, an exceptional athlete, an honor student and from such a wonderful family. He was the workhorse, the leader in deeds and behavior. Needless to say the kids are devastated. They have been together forever, it seems. We are all devastated. No one in their wildest dreams would expect God to suddenly reach down and Tyler home. It broke my heart holding my 15 year old son as he was crying like a baby, a scene repeated over and over in...

Federal judge Steger dies in Tyler 06/05/2006 Associated Press U.S. District Judge William Merritt Steger, who handled more than 15,000 cases in 35 years on the federal bench, died Sunday night in a Tyler hospital. Steger was 85. His failing health had kept him from the courtroom the past couple of months. Former law clerks and fellow judges praised Steger for his fairness and honesty. "When I took the job working for Judge Steger, I knew I was going to learn a lot about the law and how to be a good lawyer," Matt Flanery, the judge's law clerk, said...

Conservatives have been attacked by liberals and it's time for them to fight back, Ann Coulter, a legal analyst, public commentator and political columnist, said at the University of Texas at Tyler's Cowan Center on Thursday. "Every time I turn on the news, they (liberals) are always claiming they're oppressed. So let's do it. Let's oppress them," she said, eliciting laughter and cheers from audience members at the Distinguished Lecture Series event. Known for her biting rhetoric and sarcasm interjected into conservative criticism of national politics, Ms. Coulter didn't appear to disappoint audience members expecting a sampling of her humor...

The Texas Department of Transportation went on the offensive Friday to quash rumors that it was surveying land in Central Texas for the Trans-Texas Corridor or preparing to acquire property for the proposed tollway project. “We have taken this unusual means of releasing a special statement to assure the people of Bell and McLennan counties that this rumor is untrue,” the department said in a statement. Some local officials and corridor critics said they had encountered similar rumors, which they attributed to uneasy landowners who fear the state's plan to build a 1,200-foot-wide network of roads, railway and utility infrastructure...

Residents eye proposal for new highway project Dozens of area residents examined maps of proposed routes and discussed the implications of the proposed I-69 Trans-Texas Corridor at an open house Wednesday in Calallen. Still in its preliminary stages, the proposed highway will stretch from Mexico to Canada. In Texas, it generally will follow U.S. Highway 59 from Texarkana to Victoria. From there it will split and go to both Laredo and the Rio Grande Valley, roughly following U.S. Highways 59 and 77. The project is undergoing an environmental impact study, said Doug Booher, TXDOT environmental manager. Fred Wollmann, who lives...
