They are right on the merits. But I wonder if Trump isn’t calling the bluff of the Democrats about the DACAns. I don’t think Democrats want a deal—or any deal short of complete amnesty for everyone and anyone, which ain’t gonna happen. I’m guessing the Democrats would rather have the issue to run on in November, thinking they can whip up their base and, if they gain a majority of one or both houses of Congress in November, cram what they want down Trump’s throat. Resistance and all that. The last thing they want is for Trump to have a...

Generous legalization is trade for wall, more deportations President Trump will propose a pathway to citizenship for 1.8 million illegal immigrant “Dreamers,” nearly tripling the Obama-era DACA program, the White House said Thursday as it previewed the plan the president will submit to Congress next week. Mr. Trump’s vision is less than the 3 million people granted legal status under the plan pushed by Sens. Lindsey Graham and Richard Durbin, but far more than the 690,000 people currently in the DACA program. White House officials said they felt they had to go that far in order to demand major changes...

The White House has canceled their planned meeting with lawmakers to roll out their immigration “framework” that gives U.S. citizenship to at least 1.8 million illegal aliens, as Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer demands more concessions from the administration. A statement from pro-open borders Sen. Dick Durbin’s (D-IL) office revealed that White House advisers — including Gen. John Kelly, former Koch brothers executive Marc Short, Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Kirstjen Nielsen, and senior adviser Stephen Miller — have canceled their Monday rollout of the amnesty package. DHS spokesperson Tyler Houlton, though, called the canceled rollout a “scheduling issue,” saying...

Washington (AFP) - US President Donald Trump's administration has unveiled a sweeping new immigration plan to Congress that offers 1.8 million young unauthorized immigrants known as "Dreamers" a path to citizenship over 10-12 years. In a comprehensive reform that will be formally presented next week, Trump also asked Congress Thursday to eliminate the popular "green card lottery" program and severely restrict family immigration, steps analysts say could cut in half the more than one million foreign-born people moving to the country annually.
