BEGIN TRANSCRIPT RUSH: All right, the problem for John Kerry is that he desperately wants to be noticed. He does. I think that's been his problem all his life. There's a story in the New York Post today about the way Kerry lived before he met Teresa. This almost makes it sound like he was living out of his Dodge or his Chrysler. He had no money, he had nothing. I mean, it's almost, well, wouldn't say pathetic, but it was [talking to program observer] I don't have any idea whether he got money from the first wife. Point is...

Good Evening. Iraq faces a choice. You could take the path which leads to a new Iraq, a peaceful, democratic Iraq, an Iraq of political freedom and economic opportunity, an Iraq where the majority is not Sunni, Shia, Arab, Kurd or Turcoman, but Iraqi. This is the path to a bright and hopeful future. Or you could take the path which leads to the dark Iraq of the past where violence and fear rule, where power comes from a gun, and where only the powerful and ruthless are secure. Thousands of conversations with you over the past year have made...

SECRETARY POWELL: Good morning. I just had a good conversation with High Representative Solana of the European Union. We discussed a variety of issues. We are both looking forward to a Quartet meeting in the not too distant future, as soon as we get all of our schedules arranged, to go over the situation in the Middle East and to have an opportunity to discuss recent actions. I reaffirmed to the High Representative that the President's position on the Middle East peace process is unchanged; he's committed to the roadmap; he's committed to a Palestinian state being brought into being...

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- President Bush met Wednesday at the White House with Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon and praised Sharon's proposed withdrawal from Gaza and parts of the West Bank.

[IMRA: President Bush says "There will never be a Palestinian state, in my judgment, if terrorists are willing to kill. And so the first step we've got to do is to work on the mutual security concerns of the region" - but it should be noted that in contrast to these remarks, Mr. Bush's Road Map makes possible the creation of a sovereign Palestinian state in the evacuated areas after "declarations" and the "start" of PA security activities (=photo ops) that are judged by a consensus of the Quartet - as compared to Israel's activities - to justify the creation...

April 13, 2004 PRESS CONFERENCE OF THE PRESIDENT The East Room 8:31 P.M. EDT THE PRESIDENT: Good evening. Before I take your questions, let me speak with the American people about the situation in Iraq. This has been tough weeks in that country. Coalition forces have encountered serious violence in some areas of Iraq. Our military commanders report that this violence is being instigated by three groups: Some remnants of Saddam Hussein's regime, along with Islamic militants have attacked coalition forces in the city of Fallujah. Terrorists from other countries have infiltrated Iraq to incite and organize attacks. In the...

Rice's response to Bob Kerrey (transcript -- scroll down) is amusing: KERREY: Why didn't we swat that fly? RICE: I believe that there's a question of whether or not you respond in a tactical sense or whether you respond in a strategic sense; whether or not you decide that you're going to respond to every attack with minimal use of military force and go after every -- on a kind of tit-for-tat basis. By the way, in that memo, Dick Clarke talks about not doing this tit-for-tat, doing this on the time of our choosing. RICE: I'm aware, Mr. Kerrey,...
