Condi KOs Kerrey

Rice's response to Bob Kerrey (transcript -- scroll down) is amusing:

KERREY: Why didn't we swat that fly?

RICE: I believe that there's a question of whether or not you respond in a tactical sense or whether you respond in a strategic sense; whether or not you decide that you're going to respond to every attack with minimal use of military force and go after every -- on a kind of tit-for-tat basis.

By the way, in that memo, Dick Clarke talks about not doing this tit-for-tat, doing this on the time of our choosing.

RICE: I'm aware, Mr. Kerrey, of a speech that you gave at that time that said that perhaps the best thing that we could do to respond to the Cole and to the memories was to do something about the threat of Saddam Hussein.

That's a strategic view...

(APPLAUSE)

And we took a strategic view. We didn't take a tactical view. I mean, it was really -- quite frankly, I was blown away when I read the speech, because it's a brilliant speech. It talks about really...

(LAUGHTER)

... an asymmetric...

KERREY: I presume you read it in the last few days?

RICE: Oh no, I read it quite a bit before that. It's an asymmetric approach.

I just heard about this on a radio talk show today. And, as you read on, Kerrey becomes quite belligerent and tries to talk over Ms. Rice.

Interesting that the "mainstream" media didn't pick up on this but I'm sure we'll hear some more gems in the next week.

I need to find the speech that Ms. Rice is referring to; it should prove to be quite an eye-opener.

Bob Kerrey, who used to sound like a voice of reason, becomes just another shrill clown that I'm rapidly losing respect for. Not that he cares.

Bob Kerrey is just a low-life partisan... Every Democrat on this Commission has become just a complete partisan. On the GOP side, except for Governor Thompson (and even then only sometimes), our "representatives" have been complete RINOS.

The Democrats (and the pitiful "9-11 families") demanded Condi Rice testify in public and under oath -- violating all precedent. Now they are demanding the 8/6/01 PDB be declassified -- against all precedent. And the rabid press will make it happen... And then the partisan Dems will demand ALL PDBs in Bush's first 200 days in office be declassified -- and the Partisan Media and RINO Republicans on that damned Commission will just nod in agreement. It makes me SICK.

Meanwhile, Bubba has a "conversation" with the Commission -- here, this disgrace of a president, who allowed his dalliances with a young intern come before any concern for the national defense or the threats from terrorists, is treated with kid gloves and a "friendly conversation." Really, really SICK.

I watched the whole thing live, and this was easily the best moment. He starts off compliment her in the most appallingly condescending way (it sounded pretty damn close to, "you've done so well for a colored girl.") Then he was doing his best to score points off of her, and she just smiled and handed him his dangly bits on a plate. By complimenting him. The look on his face was priceless. He never got his concentration back.

Sun Tsu, eat your heart out.

I agree. Beyond the commission being a waste of time money and effort, it is rapidly becoming a mouthpiece for liberals everywhere. None of these lefty A-holes will put the blame where it belongs, in the middle east.

I caught a little of NPR's version of events this morning just to see what the tax supported enemy within was spinning. According to them Dr. Rice's testimony was a defeat for the Bush admin. They remarked, "No wonder that Bush has retreated to his ranch." Their hero wan BenVeniste whom they say exposed lies of Rice etc. I hope that one of the first things done after the re-election by landslide, is to cut NPR loose.

I saw that one too but the radio show seemed to tie hitting Iraq with retaliation for the Cole attack so I'm not sure.

ROTFL!! I see I'm not the only one who thought that!!
My 14 yr old homeschooled son was listening to the hearings with me, and when Kerrey did that little song and dance number, my son's comment was "Suck up"!

Well .. there is a little info about WJC's testimony which caught Kerrey in another gotcha.

Kerrey was being interviewed by some radio talk show guy (unknown to me), and Kerrey said that WJC was very candid.

The talk show guy ask Kerrey if WJC had brought up the fact that WJC had refused to take Usama from Sudan, and that WJC had asked Saudi Arabia to take him. Kerrey said WJC had discussed that, but WJC told Kerrey that the transcript of that speech was a misquote of what WJC had said.

The talk show guy was livid. He told Kerrey - I have an audio tape of WJC making that exact statement. Kerrey was incredulous. He told the talk show guy - send me a copy of that tape.

Looks like WJC may have PERJURED himself AGAIN! So what else is new? In the dems arrogance .. they have once again been betrayed by the liar in chief.

Kerrey was auditioning to be Kerry's VP. (Kerry/Kerrey, isn't that cute?)

I hope Kerry picks Kerrey for his VP. They'll be on a fast boat to well-deserved oblivion.

Tit-for-tat, AKA "Prisoner's Dilemma" was one of the key strategies we used to defuse and win the Cold War.

The Democrats probably don't have a clue about game theory but they are good at fighting the last war (even though they didn't really want to win that one).

Rational approaches like tit-for-tat don't work when your enemy is insane. This has been the flaw in Israel's thinking for the past 30 years. Radical Islam is a form of mass psychosis. When you are dealing with crazy people the only two things you can do are lock them up or kill them.

Not only is Kerrey a jerk - he's a war criminal-type jerk! He should have no credibility on the issue of war.

Yes, I was watching it too, and it was priceless. Almost as good as her pounding of Ben-Venista.

Ben-Venista asked her a question, and then he tried to sidetrack her by asking her what the title of the PDB was. Then, when she tried to answer his question - HE DIDN'T WANT ANY PART OF IT.

The trap could have been to accuse her of NOT ANSWERING THE QUESTION. She didn't fall for it. And I agree with whoever said that anybody who thinks Hillary is the smartest woman in the world - has never met Condi.

I believe the closed door sessions (with Rice, Bush/Cheney, and WJC) were NOT under oath. Not that it would affect WJC's testimony....

Could it be this speech by Kerrey?

Yes, but the best part is in the remarks after the speech. I saw this posted elsewhere (and I can't remember where). Someone asks Kerrey what he would do about it, and he replies that he would take a bunch of Marines and jsut march right into Iraq and free the people! NO kidding!
