In most aspects of life, there are ‘cants’ and there are ‘wonts.’ When it comes to deposing John Boehner as Speaker of the House on Tuesday, there are only wonts. All excuses for lacking the ability to fire him have been discredited. Below are some of the myths that are circulating regarding the Speaker’s election. As the effort to fire Boehner grows, some members who are sitting on the fence are looking for any excuse under the sun to avoid the effort. None of them can or will publicly vouch for Boehner and defend his support for amnesty, violation of...

On the heels of Texas Republican Louie Gohmert’s announcement Sunday that he’s officially a candidate for Speaker of the House, conservative activists have launched a website aimed at getting present Speaker John Boehner voted out. The FreedomWorks website explains its position under the title “Speaker Boehner Has Got to Go”: It’s time for a new Speaker of the House. John Boehner has been Speaker of the House for four years. And in those four years he has betrayed conservatives and cut backroom deals to give President Obama exactly what he wants. We can’t accept a Speaker of the House who...

Though Rep. Trey Gowdy has emerged on social media as a grassroots favorite to take over the post of House Speaker from John Boehner, author and radio host Tammy Bruce has her own choice for the position. First, though, Bruce has compiled some visual aids under the #BetterSpeakerThanBoehner hashtag to make it clear that Boehner hasn’t set the bar very high.

The House of Representatives may be under Republican control, but it lacks any semblance of principled leadership. In fact, fiscally conservative and libertarian-leaning members -- the ideas wing of the GOP -- have faced an increasingly hostile environment under Republican leadership, one in which they're treated as obstacles rather than allies to advance the limited government policies that Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) and his team purportedly believe. Since 2011, when he assumed the gavel, Boehner has gone out of his way to antagonize principled members of his own caucus. In December 2012, for example, Republican leadership unceremoniously purged three fiscal...

Rep. Ted Yoho (R-FL) says he will vote against House Speaker John Boehner’s re-election. Further, Yoho is the first GOP member of the House of Representatives to announce he is willing to stand up as an alternative candidate to Boehner if no other alternatives emerge. Yoho joins Reps. Jim Bridenstine (R-OK) and Thomas Massie (R-KY) in announcing he will not be voting for Boehner on Tuesday. “I ran for Congress in 2012 because I had had enough,” Yoho said in announcing his public opposition to Boehner. “Enough of career politicians, enough of political gamesmanship, and enough of the lack of...

Washington, DC- With Republican control of the House and Senate in 2015, FreedomWorks believes the coming legislative cycle is too important of an opportunity to waste with visionless leadership. That’s why FreedomWorks is the first grassroots liberty group to formally announce its support for the growing movement of fiscal conservatives in the House who have committed to vote against Speaker Boehner for re-election. The election for Speaker of the House will be held on Tuesday, January 6. FreedomWorks President Matt Kibbe commented: "With a growing Republican majority in the House and a historically high number of liberty-voting fiscal conservatives within...

U.S. Rep. Ted Yoho, R-Fla., introduced the “Border State Protection Act" on Tuesday. The freshman Republican’s bill would let border state governors submit their governments’ expenses from dealing with the flood of illegal immigrants to the federal government for reimbursement. Yoho’s proposal also ensures the states flexibility to ensure the federal government doesn’t sue them over their handling of illegal immigration. “The Obama administration has failed to achieve operational control of our southern border while simultaneously enticing individuals to make the dangerous journey to America,” Yoho said on Tuesday, before taking aim at U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder for suing...

Updated 6:37 p.m. | Sen. Ted Cruz gathered a group of House conservatives in his office Tuesday night, talking about immigration and House GOP leadership elections slated for after the midterm elections. As CQ Roll Call first reported last October, Cruz held a secret meeting with members at Tortilla Coast during the height of the government shutdown drama. Many of these same Republicans are the agitators who aren’t happy with Speaker John A. Boehner. The Texas Republican gathered roughly 10 members of the GOP Conference at 8 p.m. Tuesday for a 90-minute session that included candy bars, crackers and soda....

Larry Bucshon (R-IN), Blake Farenthold (R-TX), Phil Roe (R-TN), Lynn Westmoreland (R-GA), Roger Williams (R-TX), Ted Yoho (R-FL), and Randy Weber (R-TX). A Texas Republican plans to introduce a resolution of Articles of Impeachment for Attorney General Eric Holder on Thursday. Rep. Pete Olson’s (R-Texas) office said this morning that “this was not a decision made lightly,” but comes with Holder’s “pattern of disregard for the rule of law and refusal to be forthright with Congress and the American people” since being held in contempt in June 2012. That 255-67 vote on criminal contempt, which included 17 Democrats, was tied to the Fast and Furious scandal and marked the first time Congress has found an attorney general in contempt. A measure of...

Amidst all the blather about Republicans going over the cliff and taking the world with them, a tantalizing bit of truth was spoken on today's Morning Joe. Doomsaying notwithstanding, the GOP is actually positioned to do OK in 2014. Making the comment particularly surprising was its source: Barack Obama's former senior adviser himself—David Axelrod. The Washington Post’s Jonathan Capehart and The Huffington Post’s Ryan Grim discuss why Rep. Ted Yoho, R-Florida, will admit his Birtherism to voters, but not on-camera... (video transcript) Bashir @1:44: I'd have more respect for these guys if they actually had the courage of their disgusting convictions...a man who thinks it's impressive to join an idiot like Sheriff Joe Arpaio? Ryan Grim @2:10: This is what you get when you have representative democracy tilted by Gerrymandering...because there are, you know, millions of people out there who don't think that the president is legitimate...think he was born in Africa or Asia...

Matthews...asked if Yoho questioned Obama’s legitimacy. Yoho said “No. He’s been under enough scrutiny. We need to move on from that,” and even pointed to a recent town hall meeting in which the president’s birth certificate came up. Matthews asked Yoho: “So you accept the fact that he’s a born American,” to which the Sunshine State pol said “no comment.” “No comment?” Matthew said. “In other words, you question the president’s legitimacy.” When pressed further, Yoho said “I haven’t studied it enough to spend the time on it to come back with an intelligent answer, so I will not respond.”...

WASHINGTON – To hear Rep. Steve Stockman, R-Texas, describe it, the difference between President Obama and Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas – on the question of their eligibility for the highest office in the land – may be a case of comparing apples and oranges. ~ The congressman said with Cruz, it is a legal question of whether he is eligible to serve as president – whereas the issue with Obama is not really about where he was born, but whether his documentation is authentic. ~ Obama, on the other hand, is the subject of Stockman’s proposed legislation calling for a...

Steve Stockman (Texas, 36th District) has responded to Ted Cruz’ challenge to House Republicans by filing a 19 point resolution to defund ObamaCare. Mr. Steve Stockman is not afraid of a fight. “I applaud the dozen Republican Senators who sent a letter to Majority Leader Reid explaining they will not vote for any continuing resolution that funds ObamaCare. But as Senators Ted Cruz and Mike Lee have said, ‘The House must refuse to fund Obamacare’ because every appropriations bill originates in the House and the House is the only chamber that Republicans control. My resolution includes 19 whereas statements that...

Republican Rep. Ted Yoho said a tax on tanning salons included in President Obama’s health care overhaul law is “racist” against white people. At a town hall meeting in his north Florida district earlier this month, the freshman Tea Party favorite suggested the 10 percent tax was discriminatory because “dark skin” people don’t using tanning booths. “I had a little fun with [House Speaker] Boehner and told him about the sun tanning tax. He goes, ‘I didn’t know it was in there,’” Yoho told his constituents in an audio clip of the event posted on Right Wing Watch, a blog...

This has got to be one of the best, if not the best, political ads of the season. Regardless of where you stand as far as incumbents vs their challengers go, you must admit that this was one great political ad. It very well could be the reason enough voters were influenced to pull the lever for Tea party challenger, Ted Yoho of Gainesville FL, over the 12 term incumbent, Cliff Stearns, in the primary for Florida's 3 district. While I am always happy to see a Tea Party candidate defeat a Rino, I must admit to being a bit confused...
