On Friday, May 15, 2009, members of the Free Republic, DC Chapter went to the Armed Forces Recruiting Center in Silver Spring to thank the recruiters for their service. The AFRC is about a mile up Georgia Ave from the front gate of Walter Reed. We spent our time with three Navy recruiters, as the Army and the Marine recruiters were at Andrews Air force Base preparing for this weekend’s air show. We heard that recruiting goals are being met, that re-enlistments are high and that fewer are getting...

BufordP and Cindy-True-Supporter Fraxinus Lurker Bill Pics of "not the usual" perps. While we were setting up for Walter Reed, a little excitement happened. About four patrol cars sped around our corner chasing another vehicle and all came to a screeching halt at the entrance to the lot we use to park our cars. During the commotion a couple of fellows coming from Walter Reed entered the lot to retrieve their cars. Since they were unable to leave the parking lot I had a chance to talk to one of the young men. Found out he was from India....

Family kept [Mrs] T at home and a cold rain kept me from taking pictures and kept us from putting up our banners. But the flags were up on our flanks and in our middle on the ‘grassy knoll’ behind our position were our smaller parade flags. Still the Olney patriots stood our ground. BELOW: Pictures from previous Olney FReeps. The Patriots this Saturday were Legionnaire, Halsey (USMC - Korea), along with Lurker Bill and FReepers Cindy_True_Supporter, Fraxinus, and myself. The moonbats numbered two. But since there was only one sign between them, the other just stood there and talked....

Everyone knows it's Windy! Boy, it was windy! Gusts up to 40 mph. It was our 4th Anniversary and we were going to unveil our new MOAB. Had we put up the MOAB Windy would have... Tripped down the streets of the cityand destroyed it,Smilin' at everybody she sees. But it wouldn't have been funny. Not at all. Windy even captured a moment ... and Cindy's sign ... and sent it sailing right into a little kid in a stroller. Nope, the new MOAB unveiling will have to wait - weather permitting. WASHINGTON, March 31, 2009 – Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus recently presented a $12,636 check to American Recreational Military Services to help the troop-support group ship care packages overseas to deployed servicemembers. The check included a $10,000 donation and a portion of the circus’s four opening-night proceeds from performances in New Jersey and New York earlier this month. “We had been scrambling for months to cover costs as donor fatigue and the economic decline had cut into our donations,” Ronnie Micciulla, executive director at American Recreational Military Services, said. “The average cost for shipping an individual box...

This is a program that sends monthly "care packages" to our soldiers in Forward Operating Bases (F.O.B.s) in Iraq and Afghanistan. They typically do not have local base exchanges or any other access to menial personal items (such as snacks, minimal hygiene items, personal health items). We work directly with Platoon Leaders, Chaplains, Sergeants, and squad commanders to coordinate our efforts and provide the support to those who do not receive packages and mail from home. The average age of the soldiers we support is less than 22 years old. Unclassified pictures have been sent to us and are attached...

Finally, some spare time. Between a lot of work that came in last week and preparing for the March 21 Defend Arlington Cemetery Freep, I finally have some spare time. Not much though. WEEK 165 - March 07,2009 Moonbats are like cold blooded animals. When it is cold and rainy, there numbers are low or they don’t show. But when it is warm, they emerge from their assisted living condos and dis-honor our brave military. BELOW: I was also surprised that the “Quackers”, who do not to pledge allegiance to any Country had American flags attached to their banner today....

Walter Reed - Week 203, March 13, 2009, Two Fridays the 13th, in a row don’t bother this group. But just in case, there was a smattering of green to ward off any moonbat negativism. A brisk damp night, but not too cold. For the record, DC starts celebrating St Patrick’s Day the weekend before. BufordP and Trooprally were manning the northwest corner when Cheryl from Missouri came out of Walter Reed to visit. Her husband has cancer and the superb treatment at Walter Reed has put it in remission. Cheryl credits Walter Reed with saving his life. She said...

6 March 2009, Elder Street and Georgia Avenue, Washington, DC DC Chapter Members in attendance: rongkirby, Fraxinus, Trooprally, Lurker Bill, Cindy_true_supporter, 2nd Class Citizen, Plea Deal, Navy Vet, Tom the Red Hunter The moderating temperatures enabled the chapter to deploy our MOAB. Reliable sources informed me that only three people, as opposed to the standard four to six, were required to deploy the MOAB. I don’t know if it was the climate change or the anticipation of adjustment to DST but there was an affect on some of us manning the watch this Friday past. kburi warned us about his...

STUTTGART, Germany — The soldiers from the 554th Military Police Company filed into the food court Tuesday afternoon, looking businesslike and ready to chow down. The unit, scheduled to deploy for Afghanistan this spring, was told they were getting a free pre-deployment pizza party from the local Pizza Hut at Panzer Kaserne, which wanted to show its appreciation for the MPs’ regular patronage. But the party was just a ruse. The target for the schemers from Army and Air Force Exchange Service and Pizza Hut was an unsuspecting noncommissioned officer from the MP outfit. The party was just a ploy...

You’ll be able to spot the difference. Another chillsome evening (~35 degrees) at Georgia and Elder as the DC Chapter stalwarts moved into position to thank the wounded warriors for protecting us form those who would as soon decapitate us as look at us. It was a typical Friday evening for the DC Chapter. Good friends and lively discussions between waves and shouted “THANK YOUs” to the vehicles exiting and...
