WASHINGTON, March 18, 2008 – Help for servicemembers coping with the effects of wartime service is just a phone call or a mouse click away, thanks to a nationwide network of mental health professionals. “Give an Hour” is a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization that has created a national network of mental health professionals providing free counseling services to returning veterans and their loved ones, according to Barbara Romberg, the group’s founder and president. “The participating mental health professionals will offer a wide range of services including individual, marital and family therapy, substance abuse counseling, and treatment for post traumatic stress...

Smithfield — Maj. Dennis McCool is no stranger to war. A retired Army officer, McCool, 60, began his 20-year Army career at the height of an unpopular war. His deployment to Vietnam, where more than 58,000 American soldiers died, lasted for several years. “I have lived for 38 years with a burden that every Vietnam veteran carries,” says McCool, a native of Sanford, Fla. “That burden is that we did not win. It was not our fault... Since returning home in December, the trio has embarked on another mission: to rally support for the troops. They set out on March...

WASHINGTON, March 17, 2008 – A shade more than 40 years ago, the city of San Mateo, Calif., took an unprecedented step : it “adopted” Alpha Company, 1st Battalion, 327th Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne Division. City officials say it was a courageous decision for the council to make, given that in March 1968, the war in Vietnam was still raging and many American citizens held a chilly attitude toward the country’s troops. According to a San Mateo news release, a simple letter from a young soldier serving in Vietnam set the wheels in motion. “On December 18, 1967, while...

While All the Young Eagles were Marching in DC, the Old VETS were Covering Olney for Ya!! The ever faithful USMC and Army American Legionnaires and Veterans of Foreign Wars, Halsey, Glenn, and Frank were there early, along with Navy vet iMacMan. We were soon joined joined by Legionnaires Dave and Francis -- their first time on the Saturday corner. We hope it's not their last! Shortly afterwards, Eager joined us as well. The hapless Moonbats were outnumbered for quite some time before a new feller and a couple of unidentified co-conspirators joined them, but they left soon after...

Eagles Muster - Eagles Up!/GOE Rally and March Written by MAF Blogger Danny Sunday, 16 March 2008 Just hours ago, I, along with Melanie Morgan, Cat Moy, Mary Pearson and the rest of the Move America Forward team, attended the Eagles Up!/GOE “Eagles Muster” rally. Move America Forward was honored to assist Eagles Up and (Ed: Dr. Zoo made this hot link ------>) Free Republic in organizing today’s events. Walking through the lawn up to the Washington Monument, at the bottom of which everyone was assembled, I felt way more comfortable surrounded by Veterans and military families than...

Welcome to my latest post. It was Kelly and me for this day's FReep. We got our typical 80% more honks than the moonbats did along with the many waves and thumbs up from passing drivers. The aging moonbats of Citizens Action For Peace were their typical grumpy looking old selves. These tired old hippies don't even have the energy to yell out a chant or two. They just stand there holding their signs with saddest looks on there faces, especially when we get several honks at once. The first highlight of the day was when a middle aged man...

Chanting such slogans as "surrender is not an option" and waving American flags, a few hundred people from across the country rallied and paraded in downtown Washington yesterday to support the war. The demonstration was sponsored by Eagles UP!, an organization founded by veterans in the wake of a war protest about a year ago that drew thousands to Washington. Although small in number, the demonstrators said yesterday that they represent many others from their home towns who believe there needs to be a more vocal counterweight to the antiwar movement. "We cannot be the silent majority again," Lawrence B....

I’ve received a warning from a couple of different sources, some military and some retail. (actual warning to follow) It warns people (particularly those with stickers on their car that allow them access to military bases) to avoid the Tacoma Mall on Saturday March 15th from 12:00 to 5:30 PM due to protests. It’s not a worry to me, because I loathe the mall and what it represents, and avoid it like the plague. I believe in lawful protest, and I have myself protested this illegal and amoral occupation of Iraq, the lives being lost, the money being wasted and...

The speakers had just finished lamenting recent acts of vandalism at military recruiting centers and had opened the floor to questions at the National Press Club when peace activist Tighe Barry jumped up, took off his shirt and revealed the pink military tunic he was wearing underneath. "This is what I think of the Marine Corps!" he yelled. "The Marine Corps needs to be the peace corps!" Incensed, Kevin L. Martin rushed to the microphone. "Let me tell you something, dammit!" he hollered. "I'm a Navy veteran of seven years, and . . . you are a joke, sir! Please...

Bicyle Rage Boy spews hate-America whines to Patriot Guard Rider Ted, who patiently attempts to educate him.photo by Mrs Trooprally WASHINGTON, DC, February 8, 2008— This week's FReep featured a welcome visit by two Patriot Guard Riders who had been in the Walter Reed hospital delivering hand-fashioned eagle-head canes to recovering wounded troops. As well, a youngish leftie who claimed to be a former Marine shouted hate-America slogans as he cycled by the FReep, but was directly engaged by one of the Patriot Guard and several FReepers, who patiently took the time to listen to his rant and tried to...

Tom the Red Environmental Wacko and Fraxinus the Tree Hugger It was a dark and stormy rainy drizzly night. It must've been raining Bacardi because Tom the Red Hunter seemed a little inebriated. He babbled something about favoring high mileage standards for cars, the dictatorship of the SUV, the exploitation of the subcompact, and the class struggle for parking spaces. I was appalled. We argued heatedly about CAFE standards, the Caribou, ethanol, and the like. But there's no arguing with someone who's had too much rain to drink. I quickly alerted everyone, "Do NOT drink the rain!" At least...

We had mild temps and clear skies this Friday and three patriots, (Kelly, Mary Bell, and me) ready to take on the moonbats of Citizens Action For Peace. My new banner, made by the good folks at Signs Now here in Redlands, gave us greater firepower and got us more honks and feedback than usual. Even though the moonbat's banner is larger, ours with the message "GOD BLESS OUR TROOPS DEFENDERS OF FREEDOM" packed a much greater punch. There must have been an "All You Can Eat" dinner special at one of the local restaurants, because the Screeching Pinko and...

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Two Northland residents came up with a unique way to boost the morale of U.S. troops serving overseas. Cheryl Herrington and Larry Mills are two clowns who have sent thousands of red foam noses to cheer up soldiers at war.
