I am a 912'er, long-time FReeper, and first-time candidate, running for JUSTICE...of the Peace (Pct. 5), against a 28-year-incumbent-Democrat, in the most liberal part of Tarrant County, TX (the 2nd most conservative county in the U.S.). We each ran unopposed in our respective Primaries, but I actually got 361 more votes in the Republican Primary than he did in his Democrat Primary. I need all the Freeper help I can get, e.g. calling, donations, etc. If you live in Tarrant County, putting up signs and putting on a bumper sticker would also help A LOT! But you can HELP, even...

Palin support the kiss of death? August 21, 2010 It has been a summer of setbacks for Sarah Palin: Candidates she has endorsed have been suffering a recent string of primary election losses. The Republicans' 2008 vice presidential nominee promised a pack of "mama grizzly" candidates would rise up and defeat Democrats in November. But office-seekers she supported in Kansas, Wyoming and Washington state lost their primaries despite her high-profile endorsements. And Karen Handel lost her runoff contest for Georgia governor a day after sharing an Atlanta stage with Palin. Alaska's Senate primary on Tuesday may end up an embarrassing...

1 Palin = 3 Obamas The Publisher of the Las Vegas Review-Journal, Sherman Frederick, posted a piece on the LVRJ website this past Wednesday regarding Palin’s upcoming visit to the “Silver State” to stump for Sharon Angle, who finds herself in an ever-tightening race with Dingy Harry Reid. In it, he makes a rather bold statement about the battle actually being pitched between Barrack Obama, who is backing Reid, and Sarah Palin’s support for Ms. Angle. Due to copyright considerations, I cannot quote the piece or give the website address (ever hear of Google?), but here is almost verbatim what...

LONDON (Reuters) – A leak of thousands of classified U.S. military documents has damaged the ability of foreign forces to gain the support of Afghans against the Taliban, a British military spokesman said on Thursday. Major-General Gordon Messenger told reporters the leak last month by whistleblowing organization WikiLeaks had not given Taliban insurgents a tactical advantage, but the documents' disclosure of Afghan contacts could deter further cooperation. "I think the damage that I would highlight is to the Afghans that were named. We rely upon very, very many Afghans who are prepared to nail their colors to the legitimate Afghanistan,...

Gallup’s latest weekly compilation of polling data on President Obama’s job approval rating shows him at 85 percent among black Americans, down from a 94 percent approval rating among blacks as recently as March. Obama’s approval rating among Hispanics in the latest poll, 52 percent, is also his lowest rating among that group in Gallup’s weekly measurement. He was in the low-to-mid 60’s earlier with Hispanics earlier this year. Obama’s approval rating among whites is 38 percent, mostly unchanged from recent weeks but down a few points from the beginning of 2010.

Of course, the Political Wire headline for this story is “Obama Still Strong Among Hispanic Voters“: A new AP/Univision poll finds 57% of Hispanics approve of President Obama’s job performance compared with 44% among the general population. The AP spin is not nearly as heavy: President Barack Obama’s once solid support among Hispanics is showing a few cracks, a troubling sign for Democrats desperate to get this critical constituency excited about helping the party hold onto Congress this fall.***Still, 57 percent of Hispanics approve of the president’s overall job performance compared with 44 percent among the general population in the...

Chairman Mahmoud Abbas of the Palestinian Authority told the Fatah faction's central committee this week that he convinced United States Jews during his recent visit to the United States to tell President Barack Obama that there was an Arab partner for peace and to ask if there was an Israeli one. He said that after a two-hour meeting with "the Jewish lobby" there were those who promised to tell Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu to break up his coalition or declare his recognition of the two-state solution to the Arab-Israeli dispute.

Dick Morris says a truly-desperate president has painted himself into a corner in dumping the "post-racial" role that did so much to get him elected. This is already doing substantial damage to Obama's Democratic support, and all but ensures comprehensive defeat in November (highlights mine): ___________________________________________________________________________________ Throughout the Obama Administration, the president has been able to count on the solid support of Democrats. Not anymore. According to the FOX News/Opinion Dynamics poll, Obama’s job approval among Democrats has dropped from 84% two weeks ago (June 29-30) to 76% on July 13-14. At 76%, this level of job approval is below...

After getting frustrated out of the lemons his problems gave him, David Miller made his own corporate lemonade. Due to the frustration of always having to call technical support to solve his own frequent hardware problems, he started taking the initiative to educate himself.

Roughly 60 people, wearing flip-flops and toting water bottles and generating applause from a small group of onlookers, piled out of a coach bus in front of TownePlace Suites in the middle of the afternoon heat Friday. "Thanks for coming and welcome to Arizona," said state Republican Rep. Vic Williams, shaking hands with the Texas tourists who have become the latest symbol in the fight over Arizona's immigration battle. Saying they're countering the Arizona boycott by groups who say the state's controversial new immigration law will lead to racial profiling, the bus riders - plus a reported 60 others in...

Grassroots Republican leaders from across Idaho joined in solidarity with Arizona and its efforts to push immigration reforms. At the Idaho State Republican Party Convention on Friday in Idaho Falls, a committee vetting resolutions criticized the federal government for not enforcing immigration laws and praised Arizona for taking up the cause. Arizona's law, which takes effect July 29, requires police to check the immigration status of anyone they think is in the country illegally. Violators face up to six months jail and $2,500 in fines. The Idaho convention panel urged the federal government "to protect the states...from foreign invasion." But...

I believe it was Jean Giraudoux who first said, "Only the mediocre are always at their best." Barack Obama was supposed to be the best, the very best, and yet he is always, reliably, consistently mediocre. His speech on oil was no better or worse than his speech on race. Yet the Obammyboppers who once squealed with delight are weary of last year's boy band. At the end of the big Oval Office address, Keith Olbermann, Chris Matthews and the rest of the MSNBC gang jeered the president. For a bewildered Obama, it must have felt like his Ceausescu...

OK, I understand that one always need to tread carefully when posting a "vanity" at Free Republic, even in the General/Chat forum, especially as a "newbie." Like many, I've lurked on and off for about 5 or 6 years before getting "motivated" enough to actually join a few months ago (a bit more on that below). So, I am treading carefully. I don't have an article to post as reference or as a subject since this thread is of a very personal nature. However, at this point in time, I can't think of a better forum in which to start...

Poll: Majority of Americans back Arizona immigration law By Margaret Talev Published Thursday, May. 13, 2010 WASHINGTON – A strong majority of Americans support Arizona's controversial new immigration law and would back similar laws in their own states, a new McClatchy-Ipsos poll found. Sixty-one percent of Americans – and 64 percent of registered voters – said they favored the law in a survey of 1,016 adults conducted May 6-9. Strikingly, nearly half of Democrats like the law, under which local law enforcement officers are tasked with verifying people's immigration status if they suspect them of being in the country illegally....

United States President Barack Obama has lost nearly half of his support among American Jews, a poll by the McLaughlin Group has shown. The US Jews polled were asked whether they would: (a) vote to re-elect Obama, or (b) consider voting for someone else. 42% said they would vote for Obama and 46%, a plurality, preferred the second answer. 12% said they did not know or refused to answer.
