Cipolla gave a work of beautiful clarity in his essay on the phenomenon of stupidity and its effects on human survival. These are Cipolla's five fundamental laws of stupidity: 1. Always and inevitably everyone underestimates the number of stupid individuals in circulation. 2. The probability that a certain person (will) be stupid is independent of any other characteristic of that person. 3. A stupid person is a person who causes losses to another person or to a group of persons while himself deriving no gain and even possibly incurring losses. 4. Non-stupid people always underestimate the damaging power of stupid...

With the hull and sail design based on a trading schooner built in the Åland Islands, Finland, in 1906, from the horizon Ceiba will have the appearance of a classic turn-of-the-century vessel, when the last commercial sail-powered ships were made. “They represented the peak of working sail technology, before fossil fuel came in and cut them off at the ankles,” ...Ceiba is small for a cargo ship – tiny in fact. She will carry around nine standard shipping containers. The largest conventional container ships today carry more than 20,000 containers.

Critical race theorist Ibram X. Kendi declared this week that the expression “legal vote” used to describe votes cast in conformity with U.S. laws is “functionally racist.” “The term ‘legal vote’ is as fictionally fraught and functionally racist as the terms ‘illegal alien’ and ‘race neutral’ and ‘welfare queen’ and ‘handouts’ and ‘super predator’ and ‘crackbaby’ and ‘personal responsibility’ and ‘post racial,’” Kendi wrote on Twitter. When Kendi added in a follow-up tweet, “There are so many more terms like this. What did I leave out?” his woke followers jumped on the bandwagon, insisting that any terms questioning the Left’s...

by Joe Callen Slow Joe Biden has been struggling to connect with younger voters -- a crucial demographic he needs to try and beat Trump. Biden cannot seem to generate anywhere near the level of enthusiasm among Gen-Z and Millennial voters as did Bernie Sanders. CNN reported that one of the reasons Joe chose ultra-left wing VP mate Kamala Harris was to "energize" young people -- which is bizarre g9iven how Harris went on a rampage imprisoning young people for minor weed offenses as California Attorney General. But a new video unearthed by conservative Jason Howerton will absolutely crush...

Former ESPN host and current Atlantic writer Jemele Hill, said that those who believe the United States isn’t “nearly as bad as Nazi Germany,” are mistaken. The outspoken Trump-critic and liberal activist made the comments in a Twitter post on Sunday, after reading a book called Caste, by Isabel Wilkerson. In the book, Wilkerson likens the Jim Crow system in the South to a caste system. Claiming that, “every aspect of life was so tightly controlled and scripted and restricted that race was an insufficient term to capture the depth and organized repression that people were living under.” According to...

The NFL team formerly known as the Redskins will go by the Washington Football Team for at least the 2020 season, giving the organisation time to choose a new, full-time name. Gone is the Indian head logo and the name Native American advocates have called a dictionary-defined racial slur. Here to stay are the burgundy and gold colours that are synonymous with the franchise's storied history. Executive vice-president and chief marketing officer Terry Bateman, who was hired on Monday to oversee the name change and rebranding process, called the temporary design "a nice link between the history and the future"....

Now, I care I never cared if you were “gay” or whatever acronym you chose to call yourself, until you started shoving it down my throat. I never cared what color you were, if you were a good human, until you started blaming me for your problems. I never cared about your political affiliation until you started to condemn me for mine. I never cared where you were from in this great Republic until you began condeming people based on where they were born and the history that makes them who they are. I never cared if you were well...

The recent racial tensions have caused some confusion among the Democratic Party’s more radical elements with Congressman Alexandria Ocasio Cortez claiming that Latinos are black and Congressman Rashida Tlaib claiming that she, as a “Palestinian”, is of African descent. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, also known by her initials as AOC, is the Democratic Party’s Representative for New York’s 14th congressional district. She is the youngest woman ever to serve in the United States Congress but with both her parents benign born in Puerto Rico, she should know a bit about Latino culture. It, therefore, came as quite a surprise when she claimed...

The Boston Arts Commission voted unanimously Tuesday night to remove a public monument depicting President Abraham Lincoln standing before a freed slave. The Emancipation Memorial in Park Square — a replica of the original standing in Washington, D.C. — will be taken down with an art conservator “to document, recommend how the bronze statue is removed, supervise its removal and placement into temporary storage,” the motion reads. “As we continue our work to make Boston a more equitable and just city, it’s important that we look at the stories being told by the public art in all our neighborhoods,” Boston...

The U.S. House on Friday approved legislation to make D.C. the 51st state in the United States. The House vote was the first on D.C. statehood in more than a quarter-century. The vote was 232-180. While it marks the first time the House has passed a D.C. statehood bill, the Republican-controlled Senate has no plans to take it up. The bill would establish a federal district of two square miles, comprising the Capitol and White House, the National Mall and other major federal buildings. The rest of the District would become a state called Washington, Douglass Commonwealth, named for the...

After an Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) Sydney radio station posed the question if chess is racist because it’s customary for the white pieces to move first, Russian chess grandmaster Garry Kasparov and former Australian chess representative John Adams took to Twitter to slam the notion, calling it “bull—” and a waste of taxpayer dollars. Adams noted that ABC contacted him to make a comment on the segment, which is intended to run Wednesday. “They called me up and asked whether I was the John Adams involved in chess,” Adams told the Daily Telegraph. “Then they said with everything going on,...

Joe Biden said Monday that police -- if facing a threat from a person with "a knife or something" -- should be trained to “shoot ‘em in the leg instead of the heart,” amid five straight days of protest following the death of George Floyd. “Instead of standing there and teaching a cop when there’s an unarmed person coming at ‘em with a knife or something, shoot ‘em in the leg instead of in the heart,” Biden said in an address to black community leaders in Wilmington, Del. (Emphasis added.)

David Hogg, a Parkland shooting survivor-turned-gun control activist, compared law enforcement and officials in President Trump's administration to fascists, saying his grandfather fought with antifa against similar forces during World War II. Hogg, who has been highly critical of the Trump administration, suggested the president called his grandfather and other veterans "terrorists" when Trump said the United States would designate antifa a terrorist organization. "My grandpa was part of the Antifa forces in WWII sad Donald Trump has labeled him and his fellow vets as terrorists," Hogg tweeted. Trump has blamed the left-wing antifa movement for violent demonstrations across the...

New bills passed Wednesday in the New York City Council will cap delivery fees charged by services like Grubhub and prohibit other charges, a move lawmakers say will help struggling businesses as the city fights the coronavirus. Under the changes, delivery apps will be prohibited from charging restaurants more than 15% per delivery order and more than a 5% fee on other service. These third-party services could face civil fines of up to $1,000 a day per restaurant, if they violate the new laws, officials said. Another bill passed Wednesday prohibits the services from charging restaurants for phone calls made...
