Listening to the media, you would never know that young people are less inclined than other Americans to support gun control. Few Americans have heard of New Mexico high school senior Will Riley, who is organizing “Stand for the Second,” a national walkout in support of gun ownership. Riley is doing this with no real support from school officials, and without the millions of dollars that billionaire Michael Bloomberg and others have poured into student gun control efforts.

Should teachers and staff at schools be armed? John Stossel and Maxim Lott put together a video analyzing the question. The CPRC’s research was used in putting the video together. More information on concealed handguns at schools is available here. There were a couple of nitpicks with the discussion. The accidental discharge in California occurred at a firearms training class outside of normal school hours. It was not a typical school environment. It would also have been helpful if the video mentioned that 18 states currently have teachers and staff who can carry permitted concealed handguns, though the rules vary...

Robert Reich’s “5 Points to Counter the NRA” video received over 2 million views just on a single Facebook page (available here). So it isn’t too surprising that a large number of Americans are being convinced that stricter gun control is the answer for reducing gun-related deaths.

Instead of solving the problem of violence in their halls, Pennsylvania schools are becoming a national punchline. This week, one school district announced it will arm teachers with miniature 16-inch long baseball bats. Another district recently placed 5-gallon buckets of rocks in classrooms so students could defend themselves in the event of an attack.

Mr. Mark Robinson made a very powerful statement before the Greensboro City Council. He was reacting to the Greensboro, NC Mayor’s proposal to stop hosting gun shows at the Greensboro Coliseum. Mr. Robinson talked about who is disarmed by gun control laws.

The last of those held in connection with the April 2014 Bunkerville Standoff near Bundy Rach, Joe O'Shaugnessy, was given pretrial home release after a decision from the judge presiding in the Oregon Standoff case, US District Judge Anna J. Brown in Portland. US District Judge Gloria M. Navarro in Las Vegas, the Bunkerville judge, granted release but Judge Brown in Portland needed to sign off. Anti-African-American flyers containing a racist slogan and imagery have been found at the University of Texas at Austin, according to reports on social media Tuesday. The flyers depict a racist caricature of a black man holding a knife and bear the words “Around blacks ... never relax.” UT student Kim Nguyen said she found a flyer on an yellow emergency call machine near the Littlefield Fountain.
