Gif of the Day: Tank Skeet Shooting

WASHINGTON — President Obama has taken on N.B.A. stars on the White House basketball court, golfed at the air base that houses Air Force One and even tried to polish his legendarily woeful bowling at the presidential lanes. But now it turns out that he has picked up a new hobby: skeet shooting at Camp David. At least that is the way he tells it. In an interview published last week, Mr. Obama said that he and his guests shot clay pigeons “all the time” at the retreat in the Maryland mountains, a revelation that surprised many and drew a...

If there are truthers and birthers, should there now be a new term for those who are doubting President Obama’s claim that he goes skeet shooting “all the time”? And should that term be “skeeters”? If so, count CNN’s rising young star Erin Burnett among the gadflies. During a segment on Monday night, Burnett took over two minutes to dissect the president’s shooting claim — and she found it wanting. “Obama the skeet shooter,” she began. “Yeah, I’m not making this up. I mean, if someone is, it isn’t me.” She then played the clip of CNN’s Jessica Yellin confronting...

President Obama recently told the New Republic magazine, "Up at Camp David, we do skeet shooting all the time." Today, after some suggested the president's claim might not be true, the New Republic tweeted a picture supposedly proving that Obama has gone skeet shooting:

January 28, 2013 Jay Carney has never seen a photo of Obama skeet-shooting Joel Gerhke President Obama said that he “goes skeet-shooting all the time,” a comment that apparently has the White House press corps a little suspicious. A reporter today asked White House Press Secretary Jay Carney how often Obama goes shooting and why hasn’t the press corps heard about this before? Carney simply referred her to Obama’s statement. Is there a photo of the president shooting? “There may be, but I haven’t seen it,” Carney replied. He didn’t mention if he had personally seen Obama go shooting.

President Obama says he regularly skeet shoots at Camp David and called on gun-control proponents to “do a little more listening” to gun owners in the national debate over firearms. In an interview with The New Republic posted on Sunday Obama said that he and guests “do skeet shooting all the time” at the presidential retreat and said he understood why many rural voters were protective of their gun-ownership rights. “Not the girls, but oftentimes guests of mine go up there. And I have a profound respect for the traditions of hunting that trace back in this country for generations,”...

Mickey Kaus has a good little essay on this. I have a suggestion: A few years ago my niece was speaking of a class of people as “Canadians.” I wondered about that because the characteristics she was discussing were not in any way attributable to Canadians. I suddenly realized what she was talking about and began to laugh. It’s a great illustration that no matter what you call an identifiable group, people see through your euphemism and know what you’re referring to. So here’s a suggestion, let’s change the term from “illegal alien” to … oh, “Martian.” Everyone will know...

Check out this video of a bunch of guys shooting skeet from a boat. The targets are real men flying through the air. There is also a video right below it by Jeff Foxworthy & Alan Jackson called "Redneck Games". The skeet shooting video is one I am convinced you will want to share with your friends. Take a short break from the news and allow yourself to laugh a bit. After you have busted your gut from watching this video, you can return again and face the days problems of whether or not the Republicans will cave on the budget fight with Obama. What you will see is a little game rednecks play called "Redneck Skeet Shooting". They get a friend to dress up like a bird with feathers ans all, then a couple friends jump off a crane onto a big air mattress. When they hit the mattress, the friend wearing the bird suit goes flying...

It must be a joke. The punchline is surely coming. Ha, ha! Hoarding tomato seeds! Bars on his basement windows! Hilarious! This guy really nails nuttiness. He’ll shame a few zealots, boy. But…wait a minute…I’m awfully close to the the end. When is this guy going to toss in the zinger, the gotcha!, the line which says it’s all a spoof? It never came! He was serious! Thus was my shock when I finished Mike Tidwell’s “A climate-change activist prepares for the worst” in the Washington Post. What best explains his buying “a new set of deadbolt locks on all...

Every Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday, the shots start ringing out at 11 a.m. from the 80-year-old Pacific Rod and Gun Club on the shores of San Francisco's Lake Merced, sending loud booms across the western half of the city. Club members and other shooters trickle in all afternoon, unloading their shotguns and dogs, donning their hunting vests and making their way up a set of rickety stairs to the clubhouse. There, they plunk down their fees - $8 per 25-shot round for nonmembers and $4 for members - and head out to the trap and skeet fields. But the prospect of...

PHOENIX - The family of a teenage skeet shooter is complaining that school officials overreacted by suspending the girl for inadvertently leaving two unopened boxes of shotgun shells in her car when she drove to school. High school senior Kim Peters said she fears the punishment will cloud her permanent record as she applies to colleges. Her family is fighting the Dysart Unified School District to get the offense, possession of a "dangerous instrument," expunged. Administrators stand by their decision and rejected the family's first appeal. "We can never comment on a specific situation with a student (due to privacy...

YAPHANK, N.Y., Sept. 1 — In the musical revue “Yip Yip Yaphank,” based on his time as an Army trainee here during World War I, Irving Berlin wrote with uncanny augury about what the repeated exposure to sudden loud noises can do to a person’s otherwise good nature. “I’ll amputate his reveille/and step upon it heavily,” Mr. Irving wrote about the Army bugler in “Oh, How I Hate to Get Up in the Morning,” the most famous song from his revue. The Army’s training camp here, Camp Upton, is gone, as is Mr. Berlin, but the spirit of jangled nerves...
