If there are truthers and birthers, should there now be a new term for those who are doubting President Obama’s claim that he goes skeet shooting “all the time”? And should that term be “skeeters”? President Obama recently told the New Republic magazine, "Up at Camp David, we do skeet shooting all the time." Today, after some suggested the president's claim might not be true, the New Republic tweeted a picture supposedly proving that Obama has gone skeet shooting:

A reporter today asked White House Press Secretary Jay Carney how often Obama goes shooting and why hasn’t the press corps heard about this before? Carney simply referred her to Obama’s statement. Is there a photo of the president shooting? “There may be, but I haven’t seen it,” Carney replied. He didn’t mention if he had personally seen Obama go shooting.

President Obama says he regularly skeet shoots at Camp David and called on gun-control proponents to “do a little more listening” to gun owners in the national debate over firearms. I have a suggestion: A few years ago my niece was speaking of a class of people as “Canadians.” I wondered about that because the characteristics she was discussing were not in any way attributable to Canadians. I suddenly realized what she was talking about and began to laugh. It’s a great illustration that no matter what you call an identifiable group, people see through your euphemism and know what you’re referring to.
