I believe National Guard and State Police are using this scanner. Not much happening right now, but it sounded like the crowd was getting out of hand at the SuperDome. They are transporting people out of the Dome to Houston, not telling them their destination until the bus is underway.

An image scanner built into a piece of flexible plastic little bigger than a credit card has been developed in Japan. The idea is that you will plug the scanner into a mobile phone which will both provide power for it and act as its display and storage medium. And because it is flexible, it will let you copy just about anything, even if it is on a curved surface such as an open book or the label on a wine bottle. The lightweight device, unveiled last week at an electronics conference in San Francisco, is the latest development in...

Am I the only who finds Visioneer scanners hard to configure? I had to reinstall the software recently. Before, I was able to select "scan" and have the image go to Microsoft Paint as its destination. Now, though, when I configure the Scan button, I don't see Paint as a selectable option for a destination. The closest option is to create a PDF file, but that doesn't help, because I eventually want to insert files into PowerPoint. How can I tell "One Touch" (the Visioneer software) that I want images to go to Paint?

You could soon go to the gym, step in front of a scanner and find out exactly where the fat needs to come off. All you have to do is stand still for 30 seconds as the machine measures your body fat. It will tell you where you need to lose weight and even suggest the best exercises. The scanner works by simultaneously building up a 3-D image of the body while measuring the body's effect on an electromagnetic field. "The smart thing is that we've put them in one machine," Henri Tapp at the Institute of Food Research in...
