New Hampshire’s first transgender public official has been arrested for stalking a victim and violating a restraining order. Stacie Laughton, who was recently reelected as a Democrat to New Hampshire’s State House, has been arrested for stalking, Reduxx reported. They Hate Our Guts And they’re drunk on power. Perhaps you’re having a tiny last minute qualm about voting Republican. Take heart. And take the House and the Senate. Yes, there are a few flakes of dander in the fair tresses of the GOP’s crowning glory—an isolated isolationist or two, a hint of gold buggery, and Christine O’Donnell announcing that she’s not a witch. (I ask you, has Hillary Clinton ever cleared this up?) Fret not over Republican peccadilloes such as the Tea Party finding the single, solitary person in Nevada who couldn’t poll ten to one against Harry Reid....

BAY VILLAGE, Ohio -- A 40-year-old Bay Village woman asphyxiated Saturday was the third woman slain in the past five weeks after receiving a restraining order intended to keep her spouse away from her. The Cuyahoga County coroner's office ruled Sunday that Mary Rothgery was killed by asphyxiation and that her husband, Michael Rothgery, 42, died of a self-inflected gunshot wound to the head. A spokesman said the case is being investigated as a murder-suicide. Homicides committed by intimate partners are the seventh leading cause of death for women, according to the U.S. Justice Department. That risk increases when a...

A new U.S. Supreme Court ruling won't change how local officers enforce restraining orders, but it concerns at least one judge. Based on a Colorado case, the June 27 ruling says that police can't be sued for failing to enforce a restraining order. In the Colorado case, a woman made repeated phone calls and paid a visit to police within a few hours, asking them to find her estranged husband against whom she had a restraining order. She thought he had taken their three daughters. The man eventually turned up at the police department with a shotgun he had just...

He was 17 and she was 14, but her father went to court to keep the sweethearts apart. Now the young man's mother says her jailed son is being punished too harshly for simply following his heart. Kevin Bucchio, 18, has been in the Billerica House of Correction since July for violating restraining orders obtained by the parents of his girlfriend, Colleen Lambert, 15, who has compared their plight to Romeo and Juliet. ``Kevin's never been in trouble. He's not a kid who does drugs or alcohol. He just thinks he's in love,'' said his mother, Sandra Bucchio. Michael Lambert...

FAIRFIELD -- A man who investigators say wounded a sheriff's deputy before killing himself Saturday had his guns taken away from him by police last month -- but one apparently slipped through the cracks. Ray Weaver, 60, of Wendell owned the .357 magnum revolver that was used in the shootings, said Gooding County Sheriff Shaun Gough. Weaver on July 29 was supposed to have turned every gun he owned over to officers in connection with a charge of violating a civil protection order, Wendell Police Chief Dave Fisher said. Weaver that day did hand over 11 guns -- including a...
