My sister and I are the primary caretakers of our elderly mom. She's 89 and disabled and has issues with memory due to age and TIAs. She has been to the ER twice this week. Once by ambulance...second by general admission. We were NOT allowed by the hospital to be with her. We had no way of knowing treatment for her was administered or diagnosis...even tho they gave us a "# to call". That proved useless. She was sent home with a UTI she was sent home with but they failed to treat her for it...even tho it was logged....

Although many clinical reports have been published, little is known about the pathological post-mortem findings from people who have died of the novel coronavirus disease. The need for postmortem information is urgent to improve patient management of mild and severe illness, and treatment strategies. The present systematic review was carried out according to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Review (PRISMA) standards. A systematic literature search and a critical review of the collected studies were conducted. An electronic search of PubMed, Science Direct Scopus, Google Scholar, and Excerpta Medica Database (EMBASE) from database inception to June 2020 was performed. We...

With remarkable speed, the COVID-19 pandemic has accelerated select investment themes across a number of industries. Nowhere is that truer than the media and entertainment sectors where technological advances and work-from-home trends are rapidly changing the landscape. Structural shifts in media consumption are disrupting the business models of traditional media giants as momentum builds for cord cutting, streaming video services and more interactive forms of entertainment. The resulting shift in viewership habits, especially among young people, could profoundly alter the outlook for media companies in the years ahead. With that in mind, here are five powerful themes that I believe...

In this participatory session, you will learn how to tell when someone is lying. Really. As a former CIA Officer with more than 20 years of experience in interviewing, interrogation and polygraph examination, Susan has seen her share of truth avoiders. She has, in fact, developed behavioral screening programs that are used by the federal government. ...

I have been reading about the cluster-foxtrot that Biden has allowed in Afghanistan and that the government is considering requesting that commercial airliners be pressed into service to rescue trapped US citizens and I thought to myself, what would be a better way to show how to lead than for Trump to send his personal jet to Kabul to rescue a planeload of Americans? He could have the crew shuttle them to a safe airport and go back after a couple of loads. What do Freepers think of this idea?

Cases of the Chinese virus are surging globally, raising doubts about the effectiveness of the vaccine. One America’s Pearson Sharp has more as so-called “breakthrough” cases become the norm and vaccinated populations see a spike in infections and hospitalizations.

This is an article from 2015 about disease evolution being driven by vaccines that are not highly effective. This may explain the origin of the different variants of SARS-CoV-2 we have seen since the beginning of vaccination. You might not want to read the whole thing, but the abstract gives you a good idea of why we have all these variants. When I had Covid-19 the Chief of Staff of a large hospital in our area, who is also a pulmonologist, told me there was only one strain. That was before the vaccines had been introduced. The doctor most likely...

1.1 THE CONCEPT OF CRITIQUE Whether viewed as a tradition, as a set of questions, or as a ser ies of distinct thinkers, critical theory has continued to attract attention in academic circles throughout the post–World War II era. The reasons for this should come as lit-tle surprise. The members of the Institute of Social Research at the University of Frankfurt in the years leading up to the victory of Nazism in Germany— what we generally know as the Frankfurt School—had in view some of the most compelling problems and questions of modern society. Critical theory is not, however, simply...

The alleged incident involving sexual conduct with a minor happened in 2019. According to court documents, a 16-year-old boy said he previously lived with Navarette and says he woke up to Navarette touching him inappropriately and then performing sex acts on him. This allegedly occurred more than five times and began when he was 12 to 13-years-old and lasted until the victim was 15.

This post came about because of concerns over the current "health crisis" and the heavy handed, jackbooted, response of the people in government who are getting away with murder. IF you are someone who disagrees with people who don't want vaccines and if you disagree with people who don't their kids or themselves smothered for another "2 weeks to stop the spread" - stay the hell out of this discussion. Period. Doing a search I found articles and comments about Homeschooling on the rise, etc. I KNOW FReepers have discussed their own varied experience with homeschooling. In the face of...

Chinese government scientists have unveiled plans for a first-of-its-kind, experimental nuclear reactor that does not need water for cooling. The molten-salt nuclear reactor, which runs on liquid thorium rather than uranium, is expected to be safer than traditional reactors because the molten salt cools and solidifies quickly when exposed to the air, insulating the thorium, so that any potential leak would spill much less radiation into the surrounding environment compared with leaks from traditional reactors. The prototype reactor is expected to be completed next month, with the first tests beginning as early as September. This will pave the way for...

Here's the problem with communism (and sometimes socialism). If you study these subjects, you will encounter lots of abstract theories about how best to organize society, money, property, and so on. Some ideas might sound appealing. But they have little to do with communism as this ideology has existed in the real world. Better to think of these theories as maps and guidebooks for people who want to rule others. Communism appeals to dead souls hungry for power. These are not normal, healthy people. When they finally seize power, everyone else becomes a victim, even as never-ending propaganda promises the...

THE number of shark attacks has exploded across the globe as swimmers continue to ignore bloodbath warning signs - seeing nearly 800 people mauled in just nine years. America has overtaken Australia for the number of attacks with Cape Cod, Massachusetts, now considered the shark capital of the world. Great white sharks are plaguing ocean shores around the world It seems graphic warning signs do little to influence beachgoers and swimmers Experts report seeing 50 in the popular holiday haven alone this summer. However, despite a spike in maulings by the ferocious beasts and signs warning of attacks on beaches...

Medical researchers at the Pentagon have created a microsensor implant that may eventually detect COVID-19 when inserted under the skin.Relax, conspiracy theorists — they’re not being disseminated via vaccines. The revolutionary subdermal technology was developed by the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency, which operates under the Pentagon umbrella, according to Sunday night’s broadcast of “60 Minutes.” The top-secret unit was launched during the Cold War to study emerging technologies for military use — among them, innovations to defend soldiers from biological weapons.Dr. Matt Hepburn, an infectious disease physician and retired Army colonel, revealed that the microsensor, which is not in widespread...
