SAN FRANCISCO -- A new court order clears the way for the Bay Guardian to try to raid the financial holdings of the archrival SF Weekly, its parent company and 16 other publications owned by the firm, including New York's Village Voice, to collect on a $21 million lawsuit judgment. Commissioner Bruce Slavit of San Francisco Superior Court granted the Bay Guardian's request Wednesday to place a lien on the Weekly's holding company, New Times Media, and the firm's interests in the Village Voice newspaper chain. Ever since the noisy demonstration at the Democratic Party's Unity Luncheon two weeks ago, everyone keeps saying the tiff between labor and the far left is much ado about nothing. Ed Jew pleaded guilty Tuesday to one count of perjury for lying about where he lived when he ran for San Francisco supervisor in 2006. Eight other charges of violating the elections code violations and committing voter fraud were dropped. When Jew took out papers to run for the District 4 seat, he claimed to live in the sunset neighborhood when he in fact lived in Burlingame. WASHINGTON — The Anti-Defamation League on Monday condemned a flyer circulating in Memphis and elsewhere that says U.S. Rep. "Steve Cohen and the Jews Hate Jesus," saying it "attempts to incite tension" between African-Americans and Jews. The flyer, which provides the name and telephone number of Rev. George Brooks of Murfreesboro, Tenn., has been in circulation since at least last Thursday. Brooks on Monday took responsibility for the flyer, saying, "I sent that out."
