PARIS (AFP) - A suspected Islamic radical from Algeria who was extradited from Britain in December is to go on trial in Paris in connection with a wave of deadly bombings in the French capital in 1995. Rachid Ramda, 35, is charged with criminal association with a terrorist organisation and faces a maximum sentence of 10 years in jail -- almost the same length of time he spent in detention in Britain awaiting extradition. LONDON (Reuters) - A judge has ordered the extradition to France of an Algerian man accused of involvement in a 1995 bombing campaign on the Paris subway that killed eight people. Rachid Ramda faces charges in France of conspiracy to murder and conspiracy to cause explosions. "At a committal hearing today it was decided that extradition could proceed," a Home Office spokesman said on Friday. Two Algerian men accused of taking part in a bombing campaign on the Paris public transport system in 1995 have gone on trial. Boualem Bensaid and Smain Ait Ali Belkacem, both aged 34, are being tried before a special court in Paris which deals with terrorism trials. The bombing wave killed eight people and injured around 200 others. The worst attack happened on 25 July at the Saint-Michel suburban railway (RER) station - when all of the eight fatalities occurred, and 150 were injured.
