Florida State Representative Rep. Angie Nixon (D) said Sunday on MSNBC’s “Yasmin Vossoughian Reports” that Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) has “blood on his hands” after a shooting in a Jacksonville Dollar General store on Saturday left three people dead. DeSantis said, “Florida, the state, and its people condemned the horrific racially-motivated murders, perpetrated by a deranged scumbag in Jacksonville at the Dollar General Store. Perpetrating violence of this kind is unacceptable. And targeting people due to their race has no place in the state of Florida.”

America's police will be safer when they admit they have a problem, Pres. Obama declared on Sunday at a bilateral event with the prime minister of Spain in Madrid. Fielding a question on Sunday, July 10, about the violence against police in Dallas, Texas last week, which left five officers dead, Obama said police officers will be safer once they acknowledge their failures: "There are legitimate issues that have been raised, and there’s data and evidence to back up the concerns that are being expressed by these protesters. "And if police organizations and departments acknowledge that there’s a problem and...

I have been having this discussion with some friends of mine who are in the Trump or Cruz camps, and people have come up with interesting ideas. Here is the question: If the GOP race goes to a contested convention, and Trump and Cruz cannot be the nominee, who WOULD you support to be the nominee? In other words, who is your second best choice if Trump or Cruz cannot be the nominee?

Around Christmas of 1973, a fellow sophomore approached Frank Reed, a leader of Princeton University's Chicano Caucus, to hand him a formal complaint she had typed up and to ask him to support it. Sonia Sotomayor was head of the other Latino organization on campus, Acción Puertorriqueña. And after a history of fruitless student talks with Princeton administrators over the lack of Hispanic professors and staff, Sotomayor believed the time had come to lodge a grievance with the federal government over the university's hiring practices. The written complaint, filed that April with what was then the U.S. Department of Health,...

THE ASSUMPTION OF MARY A Roman Catholic Dogma Originating with Heretics and Condemned as Heretical by 2 Popes in the 5th and 6th Centuries. The Roman Catholic doctrine of the assumption of Mary teaches that she was assumed body and soul into heaven either without dying or shortly after death. This extraordinary claim was only officially declared to be a dogma of Roman Catholic faith in 1950, though it had been believed by many for hundreds of years. To dispute this doctrine, according to Rome’s teaching, would result in the loss of salvation. The official teaching of the Assumption comes...

SEATTLE - And now a word about the officiating in Super Bowl XL. Two words actually. It stunk. The interference call, a push-off on Darrell Jackson that cost the Seahawks a first-quarter touchdown, was hideous. If former Dallas Cowboy Michael Irvin hadn't been allowed to use his arm to get separation the innocent way Jackson did in Sunday's loss to Pittsburgh, Irvin would have caught maybe 20 balls in his career. And the fourth-quarter holding call on right tackle Sean Locklear that nullified a spectacular catch by tight end Jerramy Stevens at the Pittsburgh 1-yard line was equally egregious.

December 24, 2004 — This is a bittersweet holiday for a Chicago activist and his son. Father Michael Pfleger is against the war in Iraq. His adopted son recently joined the Army. Their story is similar to mayor Daley's, whose son, Patrick, enlisted earlier this year. "Shock. We were standing out in front of the church one day. He said, 'I need to tell you something.' He said, 'I enlisted.' And I said, 'You what?'" said Father Michael Pfleger, St. Sabina Church Father Pfleger is an anti-war activist who calls the invasion of Iraq immoral-- but he's also the loving...
