During his interview, Fauci suggested that pregnant women are often vulnerable to severe disease from COVID-19, and they should look to get vaccinated. “When pregnant women who are not vaccinated get COVID-19, they get into serious difficulty,” Fauci said. “There’s no question that recommendation had to switch from ‘could’ to ‘should’.”

Centers for Disease Control Director Rochelle Walensky repeatedly referred to “pregnant people,” instead of “pregnant women,” during a press briefing Thursday. “For pregnant people who are at a higher risk of severe illness from COVID-19, we are strengthening our guidance and recommending that all pregnant people or people thinking about becoming pregnant get vaccinated,” she said.
