Officials insist it's only allowed 'when students are not present'.. A school district in Texas is being taken to court because of its decision to ban an employee from praying. It is the American Center for Law and Justice that has gone to federal court in Houston on behalf of Staci Barber, an employee of the Katy Independent School District. Defendants are the district and Bryan Rounds, principal of Cardiff junior high. The federal court filing explains that the district "violated, and continues to violate, her rights to religious expression by prohibiting her from praying when students might be present,...

The story of the blind beggar, found in Luke 18 is one that has recently had a powerful impact on my attitude toward prayer. The healing of Bartimaeus is the final miracle Jesus performed during His time on earth. I think it is profound that this miracle involved bringing sight to the blind. Jesus went to the cross soon after this miracle, and through His sacrifice, there has brought sight to all those who have received His great salvation and accepted Him as Savior. DURING THE TIME JESUS WALKED ON EARTH, THERE WERE A LOT OF BLIND PEOPLE. Blindness was...

Dear friends. it's pretty safe to say that Almighty God's blood brought saints are praying for justice and rightness for America in such days of EXPONENTIAL lawlessness and licentiousness! There needs to be national repentance back to Almighty God in RIGHTEOUSNESS to truly spare this nation. True believers in Jesus seek an America to be free and at least somewhat moral to exercise life as the Good Lord intended it to be until He establishes His Kingdom (Isa. 11). As long as America exists (even on life support), we have the great opportunity to continue to reach our nation's inhabitants...

Democrat-dominated Santa Clara County, California, used spies to infiltrate North Valley Baptist Church and fined the church $10,000 when they caught worshipers singing during indoor religious services. .... the church was fined $5,000 for holding a religious service on Sunday morning and another $5,000 when the spies caught the Christians praying again on Sunday evening. Various left-wing protests have taken place in the county. And while it's not clear if the county sent spies in to also "monitor" the lefties (highly doubtful), angry protesters have sung, chanted, shouted, and spittled as they express their hatred for the police and contempt...

“Why did Nancy Pelosi wait until Juneteenth, 2020 to demand that portraits of long dead Confederacy house speakers be removed from Cancel Culture Congressional halls?” House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s big whopper that she doesn’t want President Donald Trump and his supporters COVID-19 “endangered” at tomorrow’s Tulsa rally is right up there with her earlier whopper that she always prays for the president. Pelosi accused President Trump Wednesday of embarking on an “ego trip” by scheduling a campaign rally in Tulsa, Okla., which she said could put him and others in danger of contracting coronavirus. “For the president to have this...

Four men were arrested outside a Greensboro, N.C., abortion clinic on Saturday. Their alleged crime? Praying in public while the county is under a stay-at-home order due to the coronavirus pandemicSeveral members of a group called Love Life, which is dedicated to praying to end the sin and tragedy of abortion, say they were detained and later arrested by Greensboro police after they gathered near an abortion clinic called "A Woman's Choice" to "pray in defense of the defenseless and minister (offering hope and help in Jesus name) to at-risk mothers and fathers." The group conducts weekly prayer walks in a...

CBS cameras cut away from the Texas Tech locker room the moment their head coach entered the room and began leading the team in prayer. The network seemed to have no problem letting their cameras linger, while the announcers filled time and waited for the coach to arrive. However, moments after the coach Chris Beard arrived, the team began to pray and the cameras cut away to a shot of the announcers. ...

Our prayers are sometimes not answered because we pray in vague generalities. When all our prayers are either vague or universal in their scope, it is difficult to experience the exhilaration that goes with clear and obvious answers to prayer. If we ask God to “bless everyone in the world” or “forgive everyone in town,” it would be difficult to see the prayer answered in any concrete way. Not that it is wrong to have a large scope of interest in prayer, but if all prayer is given to such generality, then no prayer will have specific and concrete application....

"People ask me, 'Why pray if God is sovereign?' I respond, 'Why pray if He isn't?" -- Michael Horton As I have reflected on my prayer and devotional life and this statement, I am reminded that it isn't that we "should" pray -- as in a duty -- but we "must" pray -- as in a relationship. You and I can no more attempt to live this thing called the Christian life without prayer than we can live each second and day without breath. I have jotted down several faith lessons the Lord has reminded recently from the Scripture concerning...

John Calvin’s third rule of prayer was that we must always pray with genuine feeling. Prayer is a matter of passion: “Many repeat prayers in a perfunctory manner from a set form, as if they were performing a task to God … They perform the duty from custom, because their minds are meanwhile cold, and they ponder not what they ask.” A fourth rule of prayer from Calvin was that it be always accompanied by repentance: “God does not listen to the wicked; that their prayers, as well as their sacrifices, are an abomination to them. For it is right...

PHOENIX (ChurchMilitant.com) - Members of the Phoenix City Council are blocking a satanist group from performing an invocation at a council meeting this month. Four councilmen are seeking to enact an emergency ruling forbidding representatives from the Satanic Temple of Tucson, Arizona from delivering a prayer at the beginning of the February 17 city council meeting. Current rules allow any organization to call the city clerk's office and choose a date to act as the prayer leaders for that particular meeting. City Manager Ed Zuercher has stated the proposed changes, set as an agenda item for next Wednesday's meeting, would...

As Christianity Today acknowledges, prayers for and to the Saints date back to the early Church (in fact, these practices date back far earlier, even to Old Testament Judaism, but I'll talk more about that tomorrow). Nevertheless, these practices are controversial within Protestantism. Today, I want to look at just one of them -- prayer to the Saints -- and show why the opposition to it is grounded in a faulty view of life after death. Tomorrow, I'll look at the Biblical support for both prayer to the Saints and prayer for the Saints. First, a word on why...

An Arizona high school football coach was suspended for two games last week for praying with his team. The problem, according to the school, arose after their coach, Tom Brittain, prayed with his team. This is despite the fact that the school, Tempe Preparatory Academy, is state-funded. Freedom of religion only goes so far, according to the school's administration. "He is a man who likes to pray and I don't object to that," said headmaster of the school Dr. David Baum. That said, "he can't do that with our students," Dr. Baum stated bluntly. After a win the previous week,...

Pope Francis has brought American Catholics to their knees. As the pontiff wraps up his first year in the Vatican, a new poll has found that 40 percent of his U.S. flock says they are praying more often than they did a year ago. It could be one sign of what's being called the "Francis Effect" — the impact of a very popular pope with the common touch who isn't afraid to shake things up.
