Russia is spent - it is nearly broke, they have denuded to nearly zero their reserves of tanks (the Russians, running out of tanks - never could anyone have spun that scenario and been taken seriously!), the Ukrainians are very successfully destroying their oil industry and Russian citizens are waiting for 8+ hours to get a few gallons of gas, and they are losing large numbers of males in their 20s (who are critical to keep the population from completely crashing in a few decades. They most assuredly do NOT want a wider war, not unless they are insane (and I don’t believe that - brutal, yes, but not insane). They are barely holding their own against Ukraine, how are they going to take on a few hundred thousand MORE troops - who are both fresh and better trained than the Ukrainians?
