A Texas teacher agreed to pay a $90,000 settlement this week after he was sued by a student on First Amendment grounds for requiring a class to write out the Pledge of Allegiance. The incident occurred in 2017 when teacher Benjie Arnold asked his class to write out the Pledge of Allegiance or receive a failing grade. The student, Mari Oliver, wrote a squiggly line on the paper, and failed the assignment as a result. Oliver, who is Black, refused to write out the pledge over religious and social justice reasons relating to the treatment of Black Americans in the...

Former Klein Oak High School student Mari Leigh Oliver, 22, won $90K after the Texas school settled a discrimination case before it went to trial The student claimed she was harassed by several teachers in 2017 after refusing to stand for the Pledge of Allegiance She said she felt 'we live in a country where there isn’t justice and freedom for all' and took offense to 'under God' and 'liberty and justice for all' Under Texas law, a student does not have to participate in the Pledge as long as a parent has submitted a written request. It is unclear...

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — A Dane County supervisor wants to eliminate the Pledge of Allegiance from county board meetings, claiming the recitation is divisive. Heidi Wegleitner has proposed removing the pledge as well as the word “prayer” from the board rules, which are currently undergoing a biannual redraft. The board’s executive committee will consider Wegleitner’s proposal at a meeting Thursday, although newly elected supervisors would have the final say following the April 5 election. “It just doesn’t feel like it’s appropriate for us to be doing, when in a pluralistic society we want to be inclusive and representative,” said Wegleitner....

RICHMOND, VA—A local 5th-grade class started classes this morning by standing and reciting the pledge of allegiance to Dr. Fauci, as is now the cherished custom. "Ritual is important for a sense of security and normalcy, and also to ensure these kids swear their undying allegiance to Dr. Fauci, who is the living embodiment of science and our hope for the future," said 5th-grade teacher Mrs. Scuttlebumm. "We will start every day this way until science hears us and saves us all." With their hands over their hearts, the class recited the pledge together in perfect monotone unison: "I pledge...

On May 20, 2021, the state of Iowa passed a law "that requires all Iowa schools to lead the Pledge of Allegiance once a day in grades 1–12." Governor Nordman said:We don't pledge our allegiance to a government or a leader. We pledge our loyalty to an idea — the American idea. We pledge our loyalty to the greatest social experiment to ever happen on this planet. This is why I believe the Pledge of Allegiance is so important. However, the law also states: "A student shall not be compelled against the student's objection or those of a student's parent or...

The mayor of a small town in Colorado has banned his Board of Trustees and guests from reciting the Pledge of Allegiance at public meetings because of what he called 'direct threats' in his community. (guess which community that might be) ... But the entire room of attendees, and two board members, stood up and recited the pledge anyway...

“The final piece asks companies to ‘not support, donate to or endorse politicians, political campaigns or political action committees that promoted false conspiracy theories surrounding the 2020 presidential elections (or otherwise acted in ways contrary to a representative democracy)’.” A former federal prosecutor, Glenn Kirschner, has launched a campaign to force “every business in America” to take a pledge that states, in part, that “The 2020 presidential election was free and fair, and produced accurate, reliable results.” Any American business refusing to take this pledge, regardless of their own personal beliefs, will presumably be subjected to the cancel mob. The...

The identity politics that come from intersectionality are designed to separate peopleThe recent revelation that a senior Navy task force is proposing an oath to be taken by every member of the Navy was a warning of how deep woke-think has penetrated American institutions – even the Defense Department. Consider this pledge proposed by Task Force Navy One, which was formed in June to develop strategies to combat discrimination in the Navy: "I pledge to advocate for and acknowledge all lived experiences and intersectional identities of every sailor in the Navy. I pledge to engage in ongoing self-reflection, education and...

During a campaign speech on Monday, Joe Biden attempted to quote the Pledge of Allegiance, and instead delivered a jumbled version of it, saying, “I pledge allegiance to the United States of America, one nation, indivisible, under God, for real.” I suppose he’ll want credit for including “under God,” but I suspect he only included it because Trump has been calling out the Democrats for excluding it during their convention. Watch as Biden tries and fails to quote the pledge: VIDEO AT LINK............................

Students at Grand Valley State University in Michigan voted last week to stop reciting the Pledge of Allegiance at student government meetings over concerns that it is discriminatory and oppressive. According to a report by The College Fix, Grand Valley State University students voted last week to end their tradition of reciting the Pledge of Allegiance before student government meetings. Student activists argued that the pledge was oppressive and discriminatory against international students. The students voted last week 22-10 in favor of the Pledge ban. Dorian Thompson, a student senator at Grand Valley State University, told The College Fix that student government...

Mayors from 50 world cities flew to Denmark last week to discuss ways to address the “global climate emergency,” pledging to “do something about it” before they headed homewards again on Sunday. Telling adults to eat less than 300 grams of red meat – about the equivalent of two fillet steaks – a week was one initiative they could agree on.

"A high school science teacher was removed from his classroom in Duval County after he wrote a statement on his whiteboard reprimanding anyone who refused to stand for either the Pledge of Allegiance or “The Star-Spangled Banner.” Below is Goodman’s full whiteboard statement: “THINK: We had about a half million Americans die in our Civil War, which was largely to get rid of slavery. There are no longer separate water fountains and bathrooms in Jacksonville for “white” and “colored,” as Mr. Goodman remembers from the 1960′s. We had an amendment to the U.S. Constitution allowing women the right to vote....

On June 17th, the St. Louis Park City Council voted 5-0 to get rid of the Pledge of Allegiance. On July 15th, just as the abolition was set to take effect, the Council voted 7-0 in a room crowded with American flags and red, white and blue signs, to bring the Pledge back. Outside a giant inflatable bald eagle kept watch. It was an unlikely victory for patriotism in an implausible place. St. Louis Park is a small Democrat city in Minnesota. Hillary Clinton beat Trump here 3-1. Rep. Ilhan Omar represents it in the House. The firm at the...

A Minnesota City Council in Rep. Ilhan Omar’s district abruptly reversed course Tuesday; reinstating the Pledge of Allegiance after dropping the patriotic oath from their meetings weeks ago. “A Minnesota city council on Monday reportedly agreed to reinstate the Pledge of Allegiance at meetings, weeks after the group sparked a widespread — and high-reaching — backlash by removing the pledge’s recital,” reports Fox News. “I’ve concluded that I made a mistake and I’m sorry and I’m asking for forgiveness,” city council member Steve Hallifan said

The St. Louis Park City Council will return to saying the Pledge of Allegiance prior to its meetings. According to KSTP reporter Brett Hoffland, the council unanimously voted to return the recitation of the pledge at its Monday night meeting. The pledge debate wasn't even on the agenda for Monday night, but that didn't stop a few hundred people from cramming into city hall to share their opinion on the issue, many coming from St. Louis Park and all across the state. "I want to make sure that our traditions continue to be recognized because this is a great country,"...

The idea was well-intentioned: City council members in St. Louis Park, Minn., a left-leaning suburb of Minneapolis, wanted to make sure that all residents felt welcome at their bimonthly meetings. So, last week, they voted to stop reciting the Pledge of Allegiance. “I hope it’s not too controversial,” St. Louis Park City Council Member Tim Brausen told the Star Tribune. “Our community tends to be a very welcoming and increasingly diverse community, and we believe our citizens will understand." It did, in fact, prove to be controversial. “Anti-American much?” talk show host Joe Pagliarulo tweeted on Wednesday. “St Louis Park...

Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden declined to answer questions on the campaign trail this week about his son's overseas business dealings in countries where the then-vice president was conducting diplomatic work, an issue his political opponents have already begun to wield against him as he wades into the 2020 presidential campaign. More than once, after his father engaged in diplomacy on behalf of the United States in foreign countries, Hunter Biden conducted business in the same country. At two separate campaign stops on Monday, Biden avoided questions about his son while his staff blocked reporters from approaching the candidate. Biden's...

SPRINGFIELD, Pa. (AP) - A Pennsylvania school principal will no longer say "God bless America" after leading students in the Pledge of Allegiance. Peter Brigg's practice at Sabold Elementary School in Springfield led at least one parent to complain to the Freedom for Religion Foundation, whose attorney contacted the district. The group claimed it violated the U.S. Constitution's prohibition of government sponsoring religious messages. The district decided to cease the practice after consulting with its lawyer. In a statement , the district says it is not prohibiting students from reciting "God bless America" after the pledge on their own.
