Sen. Rand Paul (Ky.) said on Monday that he will oppose President Trump's attorney general nominee, becoming the first Republican to come out as a "no" vote on William Barr. Paul told Politico that he had concerns about Barr's record on privacy, calling him a "chief advocate for warrantless surveillance of U.S. citizens." A spokesman for Paul didn't immediately respond to a request for comment. The libertarian-leaning GOP senator had previously raised concerns about Barr, who also served as attorney general to President George H.W. Bush.

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - (Business Wire) The Rand Paul Campaign has learned that Trey Grayson paid at least three members of his 2007 Secretary of State Campaign Team as independent contractors. This revelation comes after Grayson yesterday announced that he had filed formal complaints with the IRS and six other enforcement agencies alleging Rand Paul’s Senate campaign had not properly classified their workers and therefore not paid proper taxes. As background, it should be noted the Paul For Senate Campaign, acting on the professional advice of Certified Public Accountant, is following a practice considered normal and common in political campaigns...

If you think speeches attacking the U.S. Federal Reserve couldn't excite a Friday night crowd on a college campus, think again. About 2,000 people -- students and older adults who were in the majority -- filled Northrop Auditorium at the University of Minnesota to cheer libertarian Rep. Ron Paul, a Texas Republican, as he joined Rep. Michele Bachmann to preach the gospel of a less powerful federal government. Before Bachmann, R-Minn., introduced Paul, she hailed legislation of his that would require a detailed audit of the Fed. The crowd jumped to its feet and roared approval. When she described the...

Web site tries to give Paul a fund-raising boost FRANKFORT — Republican U.S. Senate candidate Rand Paul and a mysterious supporter are attempting to paint GOP front-runner Trey Grayson as a Washington, D.C., insider. Supporter Josh Manuel, whom Paul Campaign Manager David Adams said he doesn't know, has launched a Web site promoting a "Kentucky Fight" between Paul and Grayson on Sept. 23. The site, titled "Rand 'We the People' vs. Trey 'The DC Insiders,'" notes that 23 Republican U.S. senators, including Kentucky's Mitch McConnell, are to hold a $500-per-plate fund-raiser for Grayson's 2010 U.S. Senate campaign in Washington on...
  • Ron Paul-inspired candidates make impact

It’s been over a year since Rep. Ron Paul (R-Texas) energized libertarians with his presidential candidacy, but the movement he inspired continues to ripple across the landscape. In at least a handful of House, Senate and gubernatorial contests across the country, former Paul supporters have emerged as credible contenders — or possible spoilers — ensuring that his message, once relegated to the fringes of Republican politics, continues to be heard. Paul began the 2008 presidential campaign as an afterthought but quickly won the attention of a previously dismissive GOP establishment and news media by generating intense grass-roots and online...

Things Sean Hannity Would Never Say Posted on September 22nd, 2009 by Jack Hunter Digg!Digg Stumble Upon Newsvine SlashdotSlashdot Add to Mixx!Mixx Diigo Google Delicious Reddit Facebook On yesterday’s drive home I listened to Sean Hannity, as I often do. Hannity was upset, as he often is, about President Obama ”weakening” American defense - scrapping missile defense shields in Europe, not escalating troop levels fast enough in Afghanistan, ignoring an Iran on the verge of getting nukes - you know, not being “conservative.” “You’re a great American!” one lady caller told Hannity. While I’m not sure how great an American...

Got this spam a few minutes ago in my FReepmail: Hello Friend, I have been a long admirer of yours here at the Free Republic. So I thought I’d take the time to write a personal letter to only you to inform you about Ron Paul’s Campaign for Liberty. Please keep this letter between just us. After Paul dropped out of the 2008 GOP primary; he started the Campaign for Liberty. It has since grown into the largest Constitutionalist, Austrian economics advocacy group in America with over 140,000 members. Their latest project is to pass H.R. 1207: the audit the...

Apparently, America's greatest patriot was on Loonwaffle/Trooferville's favorite radio show today with the King Nutbar himself, although I'm not sure if anyone grabbed audio. If you want to listen to the rebroadcast stream, go here. I don't feel like it. Have fun.

Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul is forcing polls to adjust and quickly. A poll released Tuesday by CBS and NY Times shows Paul at 8% in New Hampshire ahead of Fred Thompson and tied with McCain in Iowa. This follows polls released by the Boston Globe in association with the University of New Hampshire Survey Center, and the Marist College Institute for Public Opinion that also showed Ron Paul passing Fred Thompson in New Hampshire. “The polls confirm what we already know: Congressman Paul is catching on in the early primary states,” said Paul campaign spokesman Jesse Benton. “His unifying...

Ron Paul Survival Report October 15 1993 Volume IX Number 10 Page 7 Somalian Quagmire Just when you thought that our troops might come home from Somalia, Clinton sends in 400 commandos to murder the "warlord" Aidid, one of the tribal leaders in Somalia's civil war. Since it's illegal for us to murder foreign leaders, the actual purpose of these commandos has been denied. Since the arrival of these troops, the hostility toward the Americans has grown. More bloodshed is surely on the way. One day we had a kinder, gentler military feeding starving blacks. The next day, the military...

The modern political era's reliance on focus group politics and blind party adherence makes it nice to see a fresh face or idea get batted around every once in a while. Particularly intriguing in today's already grueling campaign season is the clarion call of Ron Paul's simple libertarian constitutionalism. As anyone who has seen his supporters' rEVOLution (yes, that's LOVE backward) signs and graffiti around town can attest, Dr. Paul (an MD who makes liberal use of his title in his campaign literature) is finding quite a few listeners from all colors of the political spectrum. His refusal to toe...

Ron Paul in his bid for the Republican presidential nomination.     Paul, an obstetrician from Texas, was impressed with the turnout.     "Wow. If they only knew you existed over in Washington, they'd change things over there," he said as he greeted the cheering crowd.     Paul...

Invitation to u FR folks: get your butt to New Hampshire Jan 3 - 6, 2008. That's the second annual New Hampshire Liberty Forum, put on by the Free Staters. It's a good chance to experience NH and decide whether you really want to remain in that authoritarian state you currently live in. Keynote speakers have yet to be announced, but last year's speakers included presidential candidate Ron Paul and John Stossell from ABC news....plus, it seemed, half the NH legislature. We had a lot of fun; turnout was around 300. And of course there's a lot more going on....This...
