Two former Florida prosecutors are accusing the state Attorney General of firing them for going after mortgage lenders too aggressively. The Sun Sentinel reported that Theresa Edwards and June Clarkson were abruptly fired by Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi at the end of May and say the attention they were focusing on combating mortgage fraud was the reason. "Obviously we did our job too well," Edwards told the Sentinel. "We were making too much noise." Bondi's chief of staff Carlos Muniz released a long statement to the newspaper which said that Edwards and Clarkson were let go because of problems related...
  • The States Versus ObamaCare (Op-Ed in Wall Street Journal by Pam Bondi)

This week begins the inauguration and swearing-in ceremonies for newly elected officials all over the country. One thing many of us have in common is that the voters rewarded us for our outspoken opposition to ObamaCare. The electorate's decisive rejection of the Obama administration's policies reveals a pervasive concern over the federal government's disregard of fundamental aspects of our nation's Constitution. No legislation in our history alters the balance of power between Washington and the states so much as ObamaCare does.

Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi on Tuesday filed a motion to add six states to the federal health care lawsuit, which is challenging the federal health care law as unconstitutional. The new states include Iowa, Ohio, Kansas, Wyoming, Wisconsin and Maine. The motion brings the total number of states to 26, including Florida and the National Federation of Independent Business. Also challenging that law in a separate lawsuit is Virginia, and Oklahoma has announced its intention to do the same. “It sends a strong message that more than half of the states consider the health care law unconstitutional, and are...

The States Versus ObamaCare As new state attorneys general take office in the coming weeks, I expect an increase in the number of states challenging the law in court. With former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin heading to Florida this weekend to back Republican U.S. Senate candidate Marco Rubio, the campaign team of Democratic attorney general nominee Sen. Dan Gelber of Miami Beach are wondering why Palin is not helping their opponent Pam Bondi. Palin, who may run for president in 2012, backed Bondi in August--right before Bondi beat Lt. Gov. Jeff Kottkamp and former Agency for Health Care Administration Secretary Holly Benson in the Republican primary. “Pam Bondi has been riding first class on the Sarah Palin Tea Party Express throughout this campaign, focusing on issues that have nothing...

Late Thursday the Florida Chamber of Commerce announced its endorsements in the gubernatorial and attorney general races -- backing Republican gubernatorial candidate Rick Scott and attorney general hopeful Pam Bondi over their Democratic rivals. Representing businesses that hire almost 140,000 Floridians, the Chamber praised Scott and Bondi for their stances on reviving the state’s sluggish economic situation. “Rick Scott’s 35 years' experience in creating jobs is the type of leadership that Florida’s economy needs,” said chamber chairman Steve Halverson, the CEO of the Haskell Company. “Rick understands the central role businesses are to the health of our state’s economy, and...
