  • Rep. Burton: Gingrich Only Candidate Who Can Win Debate With Obama

    NewsMax ^ | January 25, 2012 | Henry J. Reske
Indiana Rep. Dan Burton said former House Speaker Newt Gingrich is the only GOP presidential candidate who can go toe-to-toe with President Barack Obama and turn the country away from the president’s socialist path. Burton, who made the comments while endorsing Gingrich at the speaker’s Latin American foreign policy speech at Florida International University in Miami-Dade County, told the audience that “we cannot stand four more years of president Obama.” “He is a socialist,” Burton said. “He is taking this country down the socialist path and we have to change it or America will be changed forever, in the wrong...
  • Is it good or bad that Newt Gingrich makes establishment Republicans nervous?

Newt Gingrich is sending chills down the spines of establishment Republicans, and it's positively entertaining to watch. These Republicans say things like it would be "a disaster" if he's the nominee, "There's a reason most people who know him best aren't supporting him" and "Newt means losing 45 states." They say they're worried Gingrich would bring back the erratic, chaotic and crazy leadership from his time as House Speaker. What's more, many worry that Gingrich at the top of the ticket would drag down Republican candidates for the House and Senate. In a nutshell, they don't think Gingrich could ever...

Ex-House Speaker Newt Gingrich is surging in Florida on the heels of his victory in last Saturday’s Republican primary in South Carolina, according to a new Quinnipiac University poll. After trailing Mitt Romney by more than 20 points, Gingrich is now just two points behind the man he calls a “Massachusetts moderate.” Romney is at 36 percent, Gingrich 34 percent, ex-Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum at 13 percent, with Texas Rep. Ron Paul trailing at 10 percent. Gingrich is actually ahead among voters polled by Quinnipiac after his Palmetto State victory. The Florida contest is getting nasty. So far, Romney and...

Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW) filed requests on Wednesday seeking access to documents uncovered in an ethics investigation into former House Speaker Newt Gingrich that took place in the 1990s. The group filed Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests with the Internal Revenue Service and the Department of Justice inquiring after any documents provided between 1996 and 1997 by the House Ethics Committee relating to the investigation. The group is looking for any additional documents that might not have been released publicly as part of the committee's report. The possibility of additional documents has been the subject...

Former Sen. Norm Coleman is advising Mitt Romney. He has also advised us not to get our hopes up about Obamacare repeal. "You will not repeal the act in its entirety, but you will see major changes, particularly if there is a Republican president," Coleman told BioCentury This Week television in an interview that aired on Sunday. "You can't whole-cloth throw it out. But you can substantially change what's been done."
  • Newt Gingrich removes “anti-immigrant” Romney ad after scolding by Sen. Marco Rubio,

Sen. Marco Rubio scolded Newt Gingrich’s presidential campaign over a Spanish-language radio ad that accuses rival Mitt Romney of being “anti-immigrant.” “This kind of language is more than just unfortunate. It’s inaccurate, inflammatory, and doesn’t belong in this campaign,” Rubio told The Miami Herald when asked about the ad. (snip) By mid-day, Gingrich’s campaign said it would pull the radio ad out of “respect for the senator’s wishes.” About the same time, former Sen. Mel Martinez and a group of Hispanic leaders aligned with Romney in issuing a letter demanding Gingrich remove the ad.

Newt Gingrich has a large lead in Minnesota...for the moment. Our weekend polling there found him with 36% to 18% for Mitt Romney, 17% for Rick Santorum, and 13% for Ron Paul. If Santorum's out of the race by the time Minnesota's vote comes around it could work to Gingrich's further advantage. Santorum voters prefer Gingrich to Romney 44-20 if they had to pick between the two and overall Minnesota Republicans pick Gingrich 50-29 in a head to head with Romney.

Mrs. Pelosi, like Mr. Gingrich a former speaker of the House, said on CNN this week that a Gingrich presidency “will never happen.” Asked how she could be so confident, the California Democrat said, without further explanation: “There’s something I know.” Mrs. Pelosi, who served on the House Ethics Committee when it reprimanded Mr. Gingrich in 1997, referenced that investigation when she offered up similar comments about Mr. Gingrich last month. Mr Gingrich challenged Mrs. Pelosi to “put up or shut up.”

Gingrich a star on Reagan team: Romney "work product" as conservative at issue. Mitt Romney has raised the issue of Newt Gingrich's "work product." Wow. Intended to prod the former Speaker on the issue of his work for Freddie Mac (Gingrich last night released his contract with Freddie), the question, as seems to be a Romney characteristic, has clumsily backfired. It raises an all-too obvious question that is becoming increasingly revealing. What is Mitt Romney's "work product" for the conservative cause? The closest Mitt Romney ever got to the Reagan Revolution is apparently because he reads about it 30 years...

In the 13 years since he suffered a string of political setbacks and quit the third most powerful job in Washington, Newt Gingrich has been busily laying the foundation for a comeback to an even grander perch. On any given day, the former Speaker of the House can be found on a chartered jet headed to Iowa to train future GOP candidates through his American Solutions group, or in Phoenix discussing ways to lower health-care costs with drug makers through his for-profit Center for Health Transformation. He might also be in Philadelphia, narrating a film produced by Gingrich Productions, or...

I open my browser this morning and what do I find? "RUBIO RIPS TEAM GINGRICH" glaring across the front of Drudge Report... one of many negative headlines/stories related to Newt. So I guess the hit job continues. As others have pointed out, the bias he's displaying is obvious and sickening. Wonder what the reason behind this is? Newt kick his dog? Reject his advances?

Does Nancy Pelosi have the goods on Newt Gingrich? So far, Gingrich doesn’t appear too concerned. When asked by NBC about Pelosi’s warning from last night, Gingrich laughs out loud and advises Pelosi to wake up from her “very strange fantasies” and “spit it out” (via Greg Hengler and Taegan Goddard): CLICK ABOVE LINK FOR THE VIDEO OF NEWT's CHALLENGE She lives in a San Francisco environment of very strange fantasies and very strange understandings of reality. Of the 84 ethics charges filed (exclusively by Democrats) against Newt Gingrich, 83 were subsequently dropped due to a complete lack of merit or foundation in fact. The remaining charge is the subject of the below video. It too proved to be utterly baseless. Former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich responded to House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, California Democrat, who said on Wednesday night on CNN's John King that Mr. Gingrich would never become President of the United States. "There is something I know. The Republicans, if they choose to nominate him that's their prerogative," said Congresswoman Pelosi. "I don't even think that's going to happen." Mr. Gingrich appeared on The Washington Times affiliated radio program "America's Morning News" and forcefully responded to Rep. Pelosi. "There's almost a level of hysteria about the prospect of somebody who really wants to change Washington," said...

The mastermind behind the Republicans' dramatic return to congressional power after 40 years in the minority, Newt Gingrich commanded a conservative assault on big government to achieve his long-held dream of becoming House speaker. ...it was a disappointing GOP showing in Tuesday's election that ultimately brought him down. He fulfilled his vision through his "Contract with America," a campaign blueprint he helped craft that called for tax cuts, welfare reform and other changes aimed at shrinking the federal government. "When I said revolution, I meant revolution. When I said real change, I meant real change," Gingrich said in the midst...

A shared interest in supporting Israel, fostered over 15 years, is at the heart of casino mogul Sheldon Adelson's support for Newt Gingrich's presidential bid. It has been decades since America saw a wealthy patron become so identified with a presidential candidate. But Mr. Adelson and his wife, Miriam, account for a large share of the funding for an independent group supporting Mr. Gingrich's presidential bid, giving $5 million this week and $5 million earlier in January. On Tuesday, the pro-Gingrich political-action committee bought $6 million of airtime in Florida for television ads, according to Rick Tyler...

Newtzilla is back. Six weeks ago, during the last Newt Gingrich surge, I wrote here that “conventional weapons are useless against Newtzilla. . . . Everything bad about Gingrich — the flip-flops, the wives, the ego — is known. Once voters have convinced themselves they can overlook that stuff, it’s hard to change their minds simply by repeating it.”
