Americans galled by France's reluctance to endorse an invasion of Iraq are boycotting French wine and french fries and trading jokes and insults about all things Gallic.</p> <p>A Las Vegas radio station Tuesday used an armored vehicle to crush photographs of French President Jacques Chirac, photocopies of the French flag, a Paris travel guide, bottles of wine and a loaf of French bread.</p>

Ive seen quite a few good french jokes over the past few days while jumping from thread to thread and I thought it might be fun to put them all in one place. Who knows, maybe after having a few beers tonight with the guys, Ill fax them over to the French Embassy for another laugh.

French online cheese boutique, Fromage.com, is receiving a raft of e-mails from irate US customers who may like the cheese, but take offence at France’s position on Iraq, in what seems to be the start of an unofficial boycott of French goods, according to a report from Reuters. While American lawmakers are drafting legislation to impose sanctions on French water and wine because of the country’s demand that a case for war against Iraq has yet to be made, and her hawkish columnists are calling France a nation of ‘cheese-eating surrender-monkeys,’ Main Street, USA has stopped ordering French cheese online....

Nobody likes an ingrate and a tide of anti-French sentiment is sweeping the American street. DO THE FRENCH have the slightest idea about how obnoxious they seem to many Americans? I suspect not, but then the French aren't all that self-aware in the first place. And the American press, hung up on anti-Americanism around the globe, has done little to inform anyone of the rippling tide of anti-French feeling here. The simple fact is nobody likes an ingrate. It would be one thing if the French said they planned to sit out the war with Iraq. But it's quite another...
