Syrian President Bashar al-Assad has accused U.S. forces of stealing the country's oil and working with terrorists to maintain their positions there, as he tries to restore his authoritarian rule over the war-torn nation. Assad—who is backed by Russia and Iran—told state news agency SANA that Syrians must unite to make America's position in the country untenable. It has been a turbulent end to 2019 for U.S. forces in Syria. There were some 2,000 soldiers stationed in the country until October, when President Donald Trump abruptly ordered American troops out of position in the northeast of the country, where they...

Whether onscreen or off, Robert De Niro’s never been one to mince words. Now, his straight talk has turned the air blue at CNN. De Niro, currently starring in the new Martin Scorsese film The Irishman, appeared on CNN’s Reliable Sources on Sunday morning, where the outspoken Trump critic once again lashed out at the president. “This guy should not be president, period,” the Oscar winner told CNN host Brian Stelter. Stelter then pointed out the flak De Niro has received from those, including Fox News pundits, who say he should keep out of politics. The actor raised ire when...

California Rep. Eric Swalwell is officially in the running for the 2020 Democratic presidential nomination. Swalwell made the announcement during a taping Monday of CBS’ ”The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.” The congressman says, “I see a country in quicksand, unable to solve threats from abroad, unable to make life better for people here at home.” He says, “None of that is going to change until we get a leader who is willing to go big on the issues we take on, be bold in the solutions we offer and do good in the way that we govern.” He says:...

Billionaire investor and Democratic activist Tom Steyer said Wednesday that he will not run for the White House in 2020 and will instead focus on calling for President Donald Trump’s impeachment. Steyer, who has spent $50 million on his Need to Impeach campaign and announced plans to spend $40 million more this year, said at an event in Des Moines that “the impeachment question has reached an inflection point,” given that Democrats have taken majority control of the House. “I said last year that I’m willing to do whatever I can to protect our country from this reckless, lawless and...

Representatives of 13 progressive organizations are hand-delivering over 150,000 petition signatures Thursday to the Capitol Hill office of House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi (Calif.), demanding that she appoint Rep.-elect Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) to the influential House Ways and Means Committee. The in-person action, which the groups plan to livestream, is part of an unprecedented, months-long effort by activists to secure greater representation for progressive members of Congress on the influential “money” committees: Ways and Means, Energy and Commerce, Appropriations, and Financial Services. “The grassroots progressive movement is flexing more power than ever before,” said Waleed Shahid, a spokesman for Justice...

I think what we’re learning here is that NBA players are huge fans of conspiracy theories. Nearly two years after Kyrie Irving said the Earth is flat on a podcast with then-Cleveland Cavaliers teammates Richard Jefferson and Channing Frye, fellow All-Star point guard Stephen Curry informed us that man never landed on the moon during an appearance with Golden State Warriors teammate Andre Iguodala on a new podcast featuring Atlanta Hawks players Vince Carter and Kent Bazemore. Curry even tipped his cap to Irving, suggesting, “They’re gonna come get us,” an ode to the social media firestorm that followed Irving’s...

As a scientist who’s spent the past decade helping natural-resource managers in federal, state and tribal governments prepare for climate change, I’ve become used to giving terrible news. I thus often find myself feeling like an oncologist delivering a stream of devastating prognoses. Also like an oncologist, I find myself and others scrutinizing my bedside manner: am I being too cold, clinical and detached as I describe an apocalyptic future? As scientists, we are trained to present information clearly and dispassionately to avoid the appearance of bias. Unfortunately, this communication style falls desperately flat when speaking to the public, making...

RUSH: They are going even crazier. I have a column here. The former labor secretary in the Clinton administration Robert B. Reichhhhhhhh, has a column in Newsweek. And here’s the headline: “.” Robert Reichhhhhhhh, Newsweek columnist and chancellor’s professor of public policy at the University of California at Berkeley, believes that if Trump is guilty of cheating and colluding with Russia and Mueller proves it, that his presidency must be annulled. He says, “The only way I see the end of Trump is if there’s overwhelming evidence he rigged the 2016 election. In which case impeachment isn’t an adequate remedy....

VEN (NEW YORK) — “I am like SO HONORED!” an uncharacteristically speechless, self-proclaimed Democratic-Socialist Alexandra Octavio-Cortez told reporters, after accepting The Casey Stengel Award For Public Speaking Excellence at the El Club Cubano Interamericanol in the Bronx Sunday. “You have no idea how special this is to me! During a statement on Monday, House Intelligence Committee Ranking Member Representative Adam Schiff (D-CA) said that the White House’s statement that President Trump is looking to revoke former CIA Director John Brennan’s security clearance as well as examining the clearances of several other former officials is “exactly what you see in authoritarian regimes.” Schiff said, “Today’s action, suggesting that we will punish critics of the president by stripping them of their security clearance, that is not what you see in a democracy. That is exactly what you see in authoritarian regimes.” He added that the move is a “despicable action…to...

The failed former secretary of state remains a hashledemaine. Yes, I made the word up. Because nothing really describes the mixture of chaos, lunacy, illogic, and absent dignity that characterizes Madeleine Albright, who once ran U.S. foreign policy back when Bill Clinton was president, famously chasing Yasser Arafat around a parking lot in Paris and most recently declared "a special place in hell" for U.S. women who somehow failed to cast a vote for Hillary Clinton. Now she's gotten even battier as she grows less relevant. The former secretary of state, who's shilling a book called Fascism: A Warning, is...

An Iranian general has accused Israel of ‘manipulating weather’ to prevent rain over the Islamic republic – aka, stealing the country’s clouds. Brigadier General Gholam Reza Jalali, head of Iran’s Civil Defence Organisation, alleged that his country was facing cloud ‘theft’ during a press conference. However he was later contradicted by the nation’s weather chief.

Bonnie and Clyde sometimes called themselves “bank inspectors,” but they were only kidding. The Palestinian Authority, the famous terrorist collective pretending to be a nation, collects $350 million from the U.S. Treasury every year to pay “salaries” to imprisoned terrorists, make love offerings to families of dead terrorists, celebrate terrorists as heroes, build monuments to dead criminals, and other bad things. And that’s no joke. The Palestinian Authority was even invited to an international conference in Paris the other day to talk about how to prevent financing of terrorism, to behead the venomous snake before it bites. That’s the sickest...
