Florida man Andrew George is in jail for allegedly breaking into a home because he claimed a ghost was chasing him, Daytona Beach police say. George was booked last week for two counts of burglary. His alleged accomplice, Natasha Kachuroi, was standing over him,...

(CNN)The El Paso shooting suspect's mother called the Allen, Texas, Police Department weeks before the shooting because she was concerned about her son owning an "AK" type firearm, lawyers for the family confirmed to CNN. The mother contacted police because she was worried about her son owning the weapon given his age, maturity level and lack of experience handling such a firearm, attorneys Chris Ayres and R. Jack Ayres said. During the call, the mother was transferred to a public safety officer who told her that -- based on her description of the situation -- her son, 21, was legally...

On the anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor, the McGees argue over buying war bonds to make the point that a full-force effort to win the war is still needed, and the country can't afford to let up. The war had turned in the Allies' favor by late 1943, and an impatient American population was hoping for a quick victory. It wasn't to come quite so quickly, though, and the government wanted the message sent that much more sacrifice would be needed. Ever eager to do their part, the Jordans and writer Don Quinn used humor to make a...

At Wesleyan University on February 22, 11 students were sickened by psychoactive drugs sold as “molly” — the vernacular name for 3,4-methylenedioxy-methamphetamine, abbreviated MDMA. The powder in question, according to police, contained a mix of other chemicals, and four students have been arrested in the case. No buyer of molly knows exactly what he or she is getting, of course. But there are ways to find out, and New York arranged to test several samples obtained in the city over the past year. Home-test kits, sold through dancesafe.org, involve placing a couple of drops of dye on a few grains...

Police in Maryland have charged three people in connection with manufacturing MDMA, commonly referred to as Molly or the drug ecstasy, including a doctor who has a long-standing history of drug problems. Justin Bieber's rapper pal Lil Za has accused reporters of racial discrimination by exaggerating his drug possession arrest to make him "look bad". The 19 year old was taken into custody on Tuesday following a police raid on Bieber's Calabasas, California mansion in connection to an alleged neighbourhood vandalism incident. Cops claim to have discovered illegal substances in "plain view" during the property search and arrested Lil Za on suspicion of felony drug possession. The white powder allegedly found was determined to be MDMA, a form of ecstasy frequently referred to as molly, but the teenager, real name Xavier Smith,...

The 20-year-old suspected in a New Jersey mall shooting was found dead early Tuesday of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, authorities said. The body of Richard Shoop, 20, of Teaneck, was found in a storage area inside the Garden State Plaza Mall in Paramus about 3:20 a.m., about six hours after the terrifying incident began. Officials don’t believe Shoop – a pizza deliveryman with a history of drug abuse – intended to hurt anyone other than himself. Authorities say the 22-caliber assault-style rifle he fired was legally registered to his brother and that Shoop had taken it without permission, squeezing off...

A Saturday night triple-bill in the Seaport featured swirling lights, throbbing techno and dangerous drugs that sent three young men to the hospital — but no Boston police, despite a vow just 24 hours earlier by Mayor Thomas M. Menino to deploy the city’s cops on the Hub’s nightclubs in the wake of a young woman’s death. Two of the men, who were attending the Sound Tribe Sector 9 show at Bank of America Pavilion, appeared to have OD’d on a “molly-type” drug, according to state police — the same virulently popular substance believed to have led to the death...

"The Bachelor" Jason Mesnick wants you to know he’s not really a total wanker. He now tells Momlogic.com that Melissa Rycroft knew their relationship was over BEFORE the show. But he says she played the boo-hoos to the hilt anyway. And he doesn't regret a thing. "I mean, our last conversation was: 'Are you gonna to wear the ring? Because you know we're not together.' And I think that she probably had some hopes still that maybe I was gonna change my mind, 'cause she was really upset, " he told Momlogic.com "We didn't talk a couple of days before...

She is, on first impressions, just like any other first-time mother. The cot and the pram are on order, she has bought more cuddly toys than she will ever need and she has even given her little girl a name – Molly. With less than six weeks to go before the birth, the baby is kicking and it brings Fran Lyon an undeniable thrill of pleasure. At least, it does now she finally feels safe to enjoy it. For all the innocent joys of impending motherhood have been denied Fran since social workers warned her four months ago that Molly...

AUSTIN, Texas -- The Big Whew blew over Texas, leaving Port Arthur underwater and whole lot of stress across the state. It is highly stressful to be in a car with two adults, three children, the dog and the cat for a 12- to 20-hour trip from Houston to Austin, Dallas or San Antonio. It is also stressful to have two adults, three children, their dog and their cat move into your 1,200-square-foot house with you, especially if your sister-in-law thinks anyone who criticizes George W. Bush is a tool of Satan. Stress-sensitive groups like Alcoholics Anonymous were doing land-office...

I am going to vomit! I don't know what station I'm listening to, but one of the speakers is Molly Ivins! here are just a couple of her 'feelings': 1. I did not allow my children to watch Mr Rogers. He was 'Too unctuous'. I made them watch Seasame Street instead. 2. Dan Rather was 'tough' on sadaam (??) She is still talking out of both sides of her mouth .. luckily she wears her pants around the biggest one! :>)

AUSTIN, Texas -- One interesting aspect of the Seriously Dumb Tax Cut we are watching develop in Washington is that we are simultaneously witnessing the effects of Seriously Dumb Tax Cuts at the state level. The states are plotzing right and left, caught in hideous binds -- whether it is better to release dangerous prisoners or cut back the schools, cut back health care for kids or nursing homes for old folks.Politically, it's notoriously difficult to oppose tax cuts precisely because the trouble doesn't show up until after the next election, but this time we have are having our noses...

SAN FRANCISCO -- He was the rarest of all rare breeds -- a mensch from Minnesota. But this is not a column about Paul Wellstone. No one has to wonder for a minute what he would have wanted, "What would Wellstone do?" The answer all but roars back, "Don't mourn, organize!" The contrast between Paul's passionate populism and this dreary mid-term election is as sad as his death. There's many a contest between political pygmies this year -- we're down to seeds and stems again --- but even in proud Texas we have to admit that this year's palm for...
