A 38-foot minaret was hoisted Tuesday atop the newly completed Omar Al Farouk Mosque at the Islamic Institute of Orange County in Anaheim. It is covered in a 1,200-year-old pattern created from Moroccan tiles. Traditionally, minarets are used to call the faithful to prayer and are the most widely recognized symbol of an Islamic house of worship.
