Tens of thousands of reformists in Tehran mounted their first protests since mid-July against the re-election of hardliner Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. Nine police agents were injured in riots Thursday evening in the Brussels suburb of Molenbeek. One agent was seriously injured. The violence began during the arrest of a 14 year old who had badgered and taunted the police over the previous days. Two minors were meanwhile arrested. The two minors threw various projectiles at the police yesterday evening and resisted their arrest. They are now being brought to the magistrate. The prosecution wants to arrest them. Yesterday, for the first time I saw a billboard very similar to the one pictured here: It leads to the linked website. Apparently, this is a nationwide campaign to place advertisements to recruit for "islam," aka mohammedanism. Not only did the sight of it chill me to the bone, I notice the timing is close to 9/11 and Rosh Hashanah. The one I saw in L.A. is adjacent to the largest Black area and very near the most orthodox Jewish neighborhood.

WASHINGTON, DC - President Barack Obama is using a Rosh Hashana message to renew his call for peace between Israel and its Arab neighbors. Rosh Hashana begins at sundown today (Friday) and Obama says in a video message released Thursday that the Jewish new year should be a time to heal old divisions and seek new understandings. He says he wants to bring lasting peace to Israel so future generations will have a safe existence. He also says it is time to reject anti-Semitism, which he says is too prevalent in the world.
