President Biden’s debate debacle has giddy New York and New Jersey GOP leaders believing former President Donald Trump could be the first Republican to win their states in four decades.
Even if carrying the blue states is a longshot, party insiders and independent analysts expect Trump will do strongly enough in the suburbs that he can help Republican House incumbents defend seats they won in 2022 – and maybe even make gains.
“Trump can win New York just like Ronald Reagan did in 1980,” said New York State Republican Party chairman Ed Cox.
A recent Siena College poll had Trump trailing Biden by single digits — 8 percentage points in the Empire State, 47% to 39%. The survey was taken a week before the June 25 debate.

Even if NJ would shock me. I know they’ve had ‘republican’ governors in recent history, but I’d still be surprised. New York? Not a snowball’s chance. I don’t care if Biden is grey skinned and his eyes propped open with toothpicks. They’ll still vote for him.
I think the left in those states will resort to cheating if it looks like Trump is coming close to winning those states-
We shouldn’t assume anything. We should be using this momentum for Senate wins, which is a far more achievable goal than winning New York.
Rep. Jeff Van Drew (R, NJ-2) told NewsMax today that President Trump could win New Jersey, Virginia and Minnesota in the 2024 election:
“these are unusual times and Donald Trump is an unusual candidate. So I think we’ve got a real shot (to win NJ)...
“So in places like New Jersey, Minnesota, Virginia, plus all the (traditional) swing states, I think we’ve got a shot at them all.
“I think Election Day is going to be a great surprise.
“We are not going to give up one state, anywhere in this country, and we’re not giving up on New Jersey.”
While dangling the prospect of victory makes for a great fund raising pitch, I’m skeptical. Big government，pro criminal liberals don’t change their minds because Joe channels Amber Heard in a debate.
