  • Maryland coronavirus update: Public schools will be closed, according to state officials

    Office of Governor Larry Hogan ^ | 3/12/20 (update) | me/Larry Hogan
Gov Hogan declared all our schools in Maryland closed (not just public) for the next 2 weeks. And mentions many other venues. Here is his website, which only links into YouTube, so no easy-to-skim story. (Not perfectly updated, either, as the bottom text last declares the emergency state.)
  • What Virginia, Mississippi and Kentucky Can Tell Us About 2020

The 2019 elections are in the books, and now the country can finally start paying attention to 2020. In many ways, Tuesday’s elections were a dress rehearsal for those a year from now: The parties’ performance relative to partisanship can tell us which way the political winds might be blowing, and obvious trends from 2019 — like the widening urban-rural divide — provide clues as to where the battles of 2020 will be fought.

Finally made it to suburban Baltimore from NYC. My new hobby is unpacking boxes. Occasionally, I look up and seek a source for the local news. Is there a local facsimile of the NY Post, or must I pay for the dummocrapic Baltimore Sun for an online newspaper? I hate supporting dummocraps, even one red cent. Thanks, fellow FReepers. P.S., please spare me any Baltimore-bashing comments. I have some very valid personal reasons to have moved here. And it sure beats the HECK out of NYC, which deteriorates more and more every single day.

Democratic Rep. Elijah Cummings, D-Md., died Thursday morning at Johns Hopkins Hospital from “complications concerning longstanding health challenges,” his office said in a statement. Cummings, 68, was the chairman of the House Oversight and Reform Committee and heavily involved in the impeachment inquiry. Cummings, of Baltimore, has not returned to work after an undisclosed medical procedure that he said would only keep him away for about a week. […] He missed two roll call votes Thursday, the first day back following a two-week recess. He previously released a statement saying he’d be back by the time the session resumed. The...

BALTIMORE, Maryland, October 3, 2019 (LifeSiteNews) — A mother is furious after discovering that her 16-year-old daughter’s headaches and soreness were caused by a birth control implant inserted by a school nurse without her consent. Nicole Lambert was shocked to learn from her daughter’s pediatrician that the pain her daughter was experiencing had been caused by a tiny tube containing the contraceptive  “Nexplanon,” which had been improperly inserted in her daughter’s upper arm.Not only did the doctor recommend that the tube be removed to alleviate the child’s discomfort, but he further warned that the contraceptive could cause far worse side-effects, such...

Want to influence a casino bid? Polish your corporate image? Not be labeled a racist? Then you need to pay Al Sharpton. For more than a decade, corporations have shelled out thousands of dollars in donations and consulting fees to Sharpton’s National Action Network. What they get in return is the reverend’s supposed sway in the black community or, more often, his silence. Sony Pictures co-chair Amy Pascal met with the activist preacher after leaked emails showed her making racially charged comments about President Obama. Pascal was under siege after a suspected North Korean cyberattack pressured the studio to cancel...

Shootings are surging in Baltimore despite the presence of bans on “assault weapons” and “high capacity” magazines, two of the Democrats’ go-to gun controls. Maryland banned “high capacity” magazines and a variety of “assault weapons” via the Firearm Safety Act of 2013. That Act also required would-be handgun buyers to submit fingerprints to the state police as a part of the registration scenario.

On  8 March, 2019, joint hearings were being held on SB1000, a bill that would effectively abolish the appeals process to the Maryland Handgun Permit Review Board (HPRB). The sponsors of SB1000 are all Democrats. A former member of the HPRB wished to testify about claimed inaccuracies about the Board that was printed in a Baltimore Sun editorial. The joint committee only allowed one minute for comments. It was not enough for Shari Judah to finish her comments. She refused to give up the microphone when asked to do so. On 17 December 2018, the City of Baltimore held a gun “buyback”. The term “buyback” is an Orwellian propaganda term. You cannot “buyback” something you never owned in the first place. It should be called a gun turn-in.  On 17 December, over 500 guns were turned into the police for destruction. One of them, a small 9 mm semi-auto pistol was turned in by Darlene, as interviewed by the local Fox affiliate, Fox45.From washingtontimes.com: A woman by the name of Darlene told a local Fox affiliate that she turned in her 9 mm on Monday in order to “upgrade...

Some interesting items turned up at the Baltimore gun “buy back”.  “Buy back” is an Orwellian propaganda term. You cannot “buy back things you never owned. Furthermore, the AT4 family has proven itself to be a highly reliable, robust and durable weapon system that has been extensively proven in combat. A conversation about how much you drink might be part of your next doctor’s visit. The United States Preventative Services Task Force is advising that all adults, not just pregnant women, be screened for unhealthy alcohol use by their primary care providers, CNN reports. Doctors should provide brief counseling to patients they find are drinking above the recommended limits, according to a new statement published in the medical journal JAMA on Tuesday (Nov. 13). In an editorial accompanying the statement, Angela Bazzi and Dr. Richard Saitz of the Boston University School of Public Health wrote that implementation of screening and...

The U.S. Supreme Court recently ruled that the need for the Second Amendment is “most acute” in the home, where “self, family and property” must be protected. But now Maryland gun regulators are insisting that anyone who wants to defend his home with a firearm must have a month of special training. A group called Maryland Shall Issue Inc. has filed a lawsuit contending the training requirement violates the Second Amendment. Arguing a “right delayed is a right denied,” Alan Gottlieb, founder of the Second Amendment Foundation and chairman of the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear...
