In a city that has raised taxes by almost 25% over the past half-decade, the mayor has made the obvious suggestion: use your home's equity to hand over your wealth to keep the city's gravy train going. You will own nothing and be happy. ⚡South Portland Mayor Misha Pride tells seniors to take out a reverse mortgage to afford the city's sharp increase in property taxes. pic.twitter.com/auJK1pzAdt— The Maine Wire (@TheMaineWire) September 23, 2024It's a brilliant solution if you think about it. Self-professed “progressive” Chicago Democrat Mayor Brandon Johnson got an earful over his failed migrant policies from an elderly black resident at a recent town hall. Ex-Gov. George Pataki says a fellow Republican could win the New York City mayor’s race next year if Big Apple Dems skew any more to the left. Pataki, the last Republican statewide office-holder when he left Albany in 2007, suggested Sunday that a GOPer’s chances would considerably improve if a lefty progressive such as city Comptroller Brad Lander defeats moderate incumbent Mayor Eric Adams in the Democratic Party’s primary next June. “We know that Mayor Adams is going to be challenged. [Comptroller] Brad Lander … has already announced that he’s running for mayor,” Pataki said on 770 WABC’s “The Cats...

akland politics are heating up. On July 9, the City Council voted to place a recall referendum for Mayor Sheng Thao on the November ballot. Public discussion has focused on last month’s raid on the mayor’s home by the FBI, IRS, and US Postal Service in a broad but as-yet-opaque investigation into allegations of corruption and money laundering. Yet the campaign against Thao has other motivations—and ignoring them would be a big mistake. Spearheaded by retired Alameda County Superior Court Judge Brenda Harbin-Forte and members of Oakland’s minority communities, the campaign gathered more than 40,000 voter signatures in favor of...
