Polling suggests that the Conservative Party could win a 64-seat majority in the House of Commons in the December 12th General Election. The poll of polls conducted by Electoral Calculus and published in The Telegraph has Mr Johnson’s party polling at 42.8 per cent, giving him 357 seats in the 650-seat lower house while Jeremy Corbyn’s Labour Party is polling at 30 per cent and is currently predicted to lose 55 seats.

Recent polling has some good news for the conservative cause: More Americans identify as conservative than as liberal. Gallup’s 2018 tracking polls in all 50 U.S. states asked respondents to self-identify as either liberal, conservative or moderate. The aggregated results, which were released Friday, show that more respondents identified as liberal than as conservative in only six states. Gallup previously reported that on a national level, conservatives outnumbered liberals 35 percent to 26 percent in 2018. The states where the number of self-identified liberal residents exceeded the number of conservatives were Hawaii, New Hampshire, New York, Massachusetts, Vermont and Washington....

After 40 House seats swung to Democrats in the 2018 midterms, the Republican Party is targeting dozens of them ahead of 2020 in a bid to win back control of the chamber. The House GOP’s campaign wing has released a list of 55 seats it will target next year, mostly by portraying Democrats as the party of socialism, CNBC reported. The targeted seats include 41 of the 43 the GOP lost to Democrats — many weeks after polls closed in November.

If this court is going to break out of its predictable political mold on major legal controversies in America, it will be up to the inscrutable 63-year-old chief justice, whose ideology now lands him at the center of the bench, between the four liberals and the four most dependable conservatives. Yet unlike Anthony Kennedy, who Kavanaugh succeeded, Roberts is no centrist conservative with a record of joining the left on closely watched social policy disputes, such as to uphold abortion rights. The instincts of Roberts, who rose in Washington as he served Republican administrations, have always rested with the right...
  • Nolte: Majority of Voters See Bill Clinton as ‘Sexual Predator

Fifty-three percent of voters now see former President Bill Clinton as a “sexual predator,” according to a Rasmussen poll. Rasmussen asked 1,000 likely voters, “Which comes closer to your views – that former President Clinton was a sexual predator or that he was the victim of his political opponents?” Only 24 percent believe Clinton is a victim, while 24 percent remain undecided. Oddly enough, by a small margin, women are more inclined to give Clinton a break. A full 55 percent of men see the former president as a sexual predator, compared to 50 percent of women. Voters were also...
  • Senate Republicans Growing Anxious About Their Majority

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell didn’t break much news when he acknowledged that Republicans are facing the possibility of a major wave election threatening their congressional majorities. But his public statement was an unmistakable sign that he considers the GOP’s Senate majority, once seen as untouchable because of the historically favorable map, under serious threat as President Trump’s political troubles worsen. Leading GOP Senate strategists now worry that Democrats won’t necessarily need a perfect storm to net the two seats necessary to win back a majority—just enough lackluster GOP campaigns and a little bad luck along the way. And while...

California’s Democrats had their annual convention this week, working to figure out precisely what their agenda will be going forward. There are currently some serious schisms between the hard left and the more traditional elements of the party so they clearly have a lot of work to do. But all the policy talk went out the window when their featured speaker, Congresswoman Maxine Waters took that stage. The event quickly turned into an anti-Trump rally complete with chants and calls to figuratively drag President Trump out of the White House by force. (The Hill) Rep. Maxine Waters (D-Calif.), who has...

For the first time in Harvard University’s history, the majority of students accepted into the incoming freshman class are not white, a milestone for an institution that prides itself on educating future presidents, CEOs, and world leaders. But Harvard’s push to broaden the diversity of its student ranks comes as the Trump administration intensifies its focus on affirmative action policies and suggests it will investigate how colleges shape the racial makeup of their campuses. The US Justice Department is preparing to redirect resources from its civil rights division toward investigating and suing universities over affirmative action admissions policies deemed to...
  • The real reason the Republican Senate isn't repealing Obamacare.

    07/10/2017 6:01:41 AM PDT · by afraidfortherepublic · 98 replies
Republicans pretend that they are powerless to do more about the great ship Obamacare than to change the fuel on which it runs and rearrange its deck chairs — never mind to sink it. Because they lack 60 votes to stop “unlimited debate,” they claim to be unable to vote even on whether to allow health insurance to be sold across state lines. They pretend to believe that fidelity to unlimited debate in the Senate trumps the importance of our health care system. But the reason why they prop up Obamacare rather than tearing it down is that they are...

This morning Judge Neil Gorsuch was confirmed to the U.S. Supreme Court. For such a non-controversial figure, Gorsuch experienced the full might of the Democratic Party’s attack machine. Still sour at Senate Republicans blocking Merrick Garland, Obama’s first pick to fill the vacancy left by the late Antonin Scalia, through the Biden rule—the Left was determined to stop Gorsuch at all costs. Despite having broad support from across the spectrum in the legal scholar realm—Obama’s former solicitor general supported his nomination—and the highest rating from the American Bar Association, Democrats formed a united front to stop him. They had the...

As Democrats strategize on how to stop conservative legislation from making its way to Donald Trump’s desk in the White House, Republicans have a little-known rule in their toolbox that would allow them to pass legislation, including a repeal of Obamacare, with a simple majority. Democrats were able to keep 48 seats in the Senate after Tuesday’s election, giving the party the power to filibuster legislation and effectively prevent conservative policies from being enacted. But Republicans can turn to a seldom-used Senate rule that would allow them to pass legislation by a simple majority vote—legislation that has a greater chance...

Daan Roosegaarde reached into the pocket of his suit jacket, pulled out a plastic bag filled with black powder, and waved it around. “This is Beijing smog,” Roosegaarde said, before gesturing to the seven-metre tall, gently humming metal tower we are stood next to in the Chinese capital’s art district, 798. “We collected it from the tower yesterday. Incredibly disgusting.” Dutch designer Roosegaarde’s smog souvenir may be disgusting, but it’s the byproduct of an invention that he has touted as a potential alleviator of China’s pollution problems. His “smog-free tower” sucks air, filters it with ion technology, with Roosegaarde having...

We define victory by winning Last week, during an aside in his speech at the Values Voters Summit, Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-TX) shared an insight into the timid appeasers comprising GOP congressional leadership. When he first entered the House in 2006 the talk was of the big things the Republican majority was going to accomplish. Then he attended a GOP House conference meeting and found leadership worried. They explained that yes, the plan was to do big things. But there was “a small chance” Republicans might lose the majority. So to play it safe, the leadership wants to do small...

A majority of Americans disapproves of the FBI's recommendation not to charge Hillary Clinton with a crime over her handling of email while secretary of state, and a similar number in a new ABC News/Washington Post poll say the issue leaves them worried about how she'd handle her responsibilities as president if elected. Most also say the email controversy won't affect their vote choice in the presidential election. But more say it leaves them less rather than more likely to support Clinton, 28 percent vs. 10 percent.

The overwhelming majority of young Palestinians believe the Israeli-Palestinian conflict cannot be resolved through negotiations. A poll of Palestinian youth, defined as ages 16-30, published Monday by the Jerusalem Media and Communications Center depicts a community that is socially conservative, supports violence against Israel, is skeptical about its leadership and opposes the Islamic State. It also shows significantly greater support for violence among Palestinians in the Gaza Strip than among those in Judea and Samaria While 47.4 percent of youths in Judea and Samaria oppose stabbing attacks, 78.6 percent of Gaza youths support them, according to the poll. In addition,...

Don’t confuse most military women with the tiny feminist cabal comprised of a few officers and a lot of political groups who’ve been pushing for complete integration of the combat arms. There is a vindictive refrain accompanying Ashton Carter’s recent dictat that the combat arms be opened to women without exception. “You women asked for this,” some seem to be saying, “now suck it up.” No, most military women did not ask for it, but the few times they’ve been asked, their voices have been ignored in favor of a teeny tiny group dishonestly claiming, “This is equality.” Some 92.5%...

The opposition in Venezuela has won a majority of seats in the National Assembly, overturning nearly two decades of dominance by the Socialists of President Nicolas Maduro. Five hours after polling ended, the National Electoral Council announced the opposition had won 99 seats. The Socialists have gained 46 seats, with another 22 yet to be declared. President Maduro has admitted defeat, saying his party recognized 'these adverse results'. The opposition alliance, made up of centre and conservative parties, is confident of ultimately taking 112 seats after 17 years of socialist rule. According to senior figures in the movement, that would...

Gov. Terry McAuliffe’s prospects of retaking control of the Virginia Senate dimmed Tuesday night as Republicans won a Richmond district that Democrats called key to their plan for flipping the upper chamber. With 99 percent of precincts reporting, Glen Sturtevant, a Richmond school board member, defeated Democrat Dan Gecker, a Chesterfield County supervisor in the race to replace Sen. John C. Watkins (Powhatan), who is retiring. “Well it’s a shame. We did the best we could,” Senate Minority Leader Richard L. Saslaw (D-Fairfax) said. Tuesday’s election results will ultimately determine McAuliffe (D) has any legislative leverage or political momentum heading...
