At least 20 manufacturers have shifted operations to states with friendlier attitudes toward firearmsSmith & Wesson CEO Mark Smith was fed up. He was running the largest firearms manufacturer in America, based in Springfield, Mass., where it had been making weapons since 1860, and yet state lawmakers were considering a bill to ban the manufacture of AR-15-style rifles for the civilian market. The proposed law would cripple Smith’s company. Sixty percent of Smith & Wesson’s revenue came from AR-15-style guns.So after years of flirting with the idea, Smith announced last September that Smith & Wesson was pulling up stakes and...

Colorado Supreme Court upholds 2013 large-capacity gun magazine ban as constitutional By: Blair Miller DENVER – The Colorado Supreme Court upheld the state’s ban on large-capacity gun magazines as constitutional in a ruling issued Monday nearly seven years after the law passed in the wake of the Aurora theater shooting. “The legislation is a reasonable exercise of the police power that has neither the purpose nor effect of nullifying the right to bear arms in self-defense. Accordingly, the court affirms the judgment of the court of appeals,” Justice Monica M. Márquez wrote in the opinion. Rocky Mountain Gun Owners and...

Gun maker Stag Arms has announced on November 18, 2019, it is moving all its operations from Connecticut to Wyoming. Connecticut passed stricter gun laws after the 2012 shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown. The AR-15 rifle maker had announced in June that it would be leaving Connecticut for somewhere else that is more business friendly. It plans to be relocated to Cheyenne by the end of the year. The company said in a statement on November 18th, "Not only is Wyoming an incredibly hospitable place to do business, it is also a top destination for outdoor recreation,...

Magpul Expands Into Traditional Rifle Stock Offerings, Including A Model For The Remington 700. Magpul has expanded into more traditional rifle stocks and is taking them to new levels. I was recently sent a Magpul "Hunter" stock for the Remington 700 series rifles to test. Now, admittedly, I'm not much of a hunter. I choose to spend my shooting time a bit more tactically, but with that said, I really do like this stock. The version I received was in basic black, but other available colors include flat dark earth, stealth gray and olive drab green. This stock features reinforced...

  • Magpul announces GL9 Glock 17 PMAG

Go ahead and read that headline again. Yes, Magpul is making a magazine for the world’s most reliable pistol, the Glock 17. Cryptically titled the PMAG 17 GL9, this polymer replacement for the standard Glock 17 magazine appears to match the original’s reliability to a tee. It differs from the original with the inclusion of a stippled baseplate and bright orange follower, the former is to aid in magazine retention during reloads. One detail that appears to be missing is whether the magazines feature metal feed lips or a metal skeleton like factory magazines. If this magazine were made by...

DENVER — Democrats came under heavy criticism Friday for driving Magpul Industries out of Colorado by pushing an aggressive gun-control agenda, a move that could cost the state more than $80 million annually. Republican state Rep. Lori Saine said she was “saddened to see this completely partisan law, widely considered unenforceable by sheriffs across Colorado, cause Magpul to leave our state.” “The magazine ban did not garner one Republican vote in the House or Senate, and now as a result of this one-sided, Democrat-sponsored law, more than 200 people will lose their jobs and their ability to provide for their...

The Erie-based ammunition magazine manufacturer said on Thursday that it is relocating its operations to Cheyenne and Texas. "Moving operations to states that support our culture of individual liberties nad personal responsibility is important," CEO Richard Fitzpatrick said in a press release. Washington DC - -(Ammoland.com)-Magpul Industries donated 20,000 so called “high capacity” magazines to a June 29 2013 gun rights rally in Glendale, CO, for the purpose of raising money for the recall of state Sens. John Morse and Angela Giron–two Democrats who both supported the gun control measures that become law on July 1 2013. The Denver Post reported that the rally was sponsored by Free Colorado, “a nonprofit group that advocates for firearms rights.” Denver-based Magpul makes 30-round magazines for AR-15 rifles, and the company made news in early March by promising to take its$85 million in annual profit...

With just two weeks to go before sales of high capacity magazines will be illegal in Colorado, Magpul Industries released a 40-round version of its popular PMAG magazine, offering a limited supply to Colorado customers hoping to beat the deadline. “[T]he PMAG 40 provides 10 more rounds of capacity before requiring a reload — which could be a lifesaving difference,” the company wrote on its Facebook page. “This new ‘safe capacity’ offering is ideally suited for those who may need to respond to multiple threats without extra rifle magazines carried on their person, or for military members looking for an...

Magpul Industries, the Erie-based ammunition magazine maker that pledged to leave Colorado after gun control legislation was signed into law in March, is for the first time manufacturing its weapons accessories out of state. The company revealed the news in a Facebook reply late Monday night to a customer who expressed frustration with the lack of information about where Magpul planned to move its operations. “You have lots of people interested in this, might as well satisfy the masses and come out with it already,” Daniel Wooldridge wrote. Gov. Rick Perry speaks wistfully — almost lovingly — about a rifle he recently fired while he was at a range in Leander owned by the manufacturer LaRue Tactical. “I’m incredibly passionate about a well-made piece of equipment,” Mr. Perry said in a phone interview last week, “whether it’s an automobile or a weapon.” After the visit, LaRue posted Mr. Perry’s results online. From 100 yards away, the governor took three shots and grouped them — two shots hit the same spot — mere millimeters from the center of the target. “That was pretty good, wasn’t it?” Mr. Perry said,...

After Colorado Democrats signed new gun control rules into law Magpul promised to move operations from the anti-gun state. In our communications Liptak revealed the next steps for Magpul’s escape from Colorado.
