<p>Two recall replacement candidates racing to tell voters what they stand for were reminded Sunday of the problems that await them should they win the governorship -- the crisis in affordable health care, the scarcity and rising cost of housing, the declining performance of the state's schools and the dispute over providing driver's licenses to undocumented immigrants.</p>

<p>LOS ANGELES -- Arnold Schwarzenegger claimed Tuesday that Los Angeles' police chief and other law enforcement leaders are afraid they would lose state funding if they opposed Gov. Gray Davis on a bill that would allow the issuance of driver's licenses to illegal immigrants.</p>

<p>A hefty majority of California voters disapprove of the new law that will grant driver's licenses to illegal immigrants, with distaste running especially high among Republicans and whites, according to poll numbers released Tuesday.</p> <p>One day after a conservative Republican group kicked off a referendum campaign to overturn the law, a new Field Poll showed that 59 percent of registered voters disapproved of the bill and 34 percent approved.</p>
