In a less rosy picture, he would at least inspire many conservatives; no more “conservatives are unhappy with the candidates” would be the result of a Thompson-announcement. Fred Thompson has pulled to within 8 points of Mitt Romney in Iowa, and now occupies 2nd place alone in a new poll out by Newsweek. Below are the numbers from the Newsweek poll taken Sept. 26-27. Perhaps just as significant as Fred's strong move up, is another set of figures from the Newsweek poll. They asked respondents just how strong they supported their candidate.
