The racist “antiracist” madness has now come home to my alma mater, Louisiana State University. Before we go further, I should point out that this is the flagship public university in a very red state governed by a Republican legislature and a conservative Democratic governor. The LSU Faculty Senate has a proposal before it — one that a source within the university tells me is fully expected to pass.

Two employees are still unaccounted for at the Cargill Salt Mine at Avery Island after a roof collapse in the mine early Monday morning. The facility has been shut down while rescue operations and an investigation into the incident are underway. According to a statement from the company, local rescue workers and members of the federal Mine Safety and Health Administration are on site. There were 18 employees on shift at the time of the collapse. The other 16 employees have been evacuated without any reported injuries.

A reward is being offered for information leading to the arrests of those responsible in a church vandalism in Bayou Blue, according to Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre. Webre said on Monday deputies responded to a report of property damage at St. Louis Catholic Church on Bayou Blue Road. A Baton Rouge Police identified the two people shot and killed on South Sherwood Forest Boulevard Friday afternoon — one a robber and the other a retail employee. The shooting was reported around noon Friday at the address of a business in the 2600 block of South Sherwood Forest Boulevard near where it crosses Interstate 12. An unidentified assailant riding a pedicab ambushed two police officers in New Orleans, opening fire into their police vehicle on Friday night. Could the Gulf have yet another tropical storm soon? It continued to look more likely as of Saturday night, according to the National Hurricane Center. Forecasters said Tropical Depression 28 had formed on Saturday afternoon south of Cuba. It could become Tropical Storm Zeta by Sunday and a hurricane by Tuesday, when it is expected to be in the southern Gulf.
