Soon-to-be born babies all over that state are thanking the voters right about now.

Isn’t it impossible for any place to ban abortions since that silly Roe?

All you have to do is over turn Roe v. Wade...

And make it a states right question, or make abortion illegal by SCOTUS...

Ask Amy Coney Barrett about this -- she is from Louisiana...

Not a ban. Anybody that wants an abortion can still get it; just not in Louisiana. Go to a neighboring state to do it. Problem solved.

Great symbolism...but unless ACB is able to play an important role it will be overturned in minutes.

Yeah, well how do you avoid that provision in the Constitution that says it’s OK to kill unborn babies?

Ish. Roe v Wade and Doe v Bolton both basically found a “right to privacy” that encompasses a “right to abortion” in the Fourteenth Amendment. These “rights” apparently override the much more basic right to life that forms a big part of the base for much of our system of law.

Actually, that same provision that provides the “right” to kill babies, also mentions the protection of life...

Not quite bans. This is from the Public Affairs Research Council in Louisiana:

The proposed amendment says that nothing in the Constitution shall be construed to secure or protect a right to abortion or require the funding of abortion. It would have no immediate effect but would limit any future state judicial interpretation that might otherwise find a right to abortion.

Argument for: The purpose of this amendment is to place
the abortion issue in the hands of the
people through their elected officials and
their statewide vote on this amendment,
rather than with their state court judges.
Judicial consideration of such important
issues should be decided on the clear
intent of law passed by the Legislature
rather than on legal ambiguities.

Argument against: If Roe v. Wade is not overturned, this amendment
at best would be pointless and at worst could
result in the courts allowing further restrictions on
access and funding. Women who want to end a
pregnancy cannot wait for long court battles to
determine their rights. The amendment has no
exceptions for cases involving rape, incest or the
mother’s risk of death. Louisiana already has a law
to ban abortion if Roe vs. Wade is overturned.

Abortion was banned in Louisiana, but overturned by R v W. I voted for the amendment & saw many vote yes signs in my rural area north of Baton Rouge. Expect this to pass due to overwhelming abortion ban before Roe V Wade. Guess we are still pro-life here in Louisiana - yay us!

On a side note, we typically have at least 10-12 constitutional amendments every election - our state constitution is a mess. It amazes me how many voters appeared today without bringing anything with them for amendments. We have a 3 minute voting limit & constantly had to encourage voters to get a move on due to time spent reading those amendments. They are really badly written. You really have to pay attention, i.e. an amendment a person approves would be a no vote & vice versa - infuriating.
Thanks for the post! Worked the polls today, so just getting home & catching up on election.

Choose one of the following.

1. Kneel before the Supreme Court

2. Protect innocent little preborn babies from being murdered
