James Vanderbilt's Truth, the high-profile movie chronicling the scandal that derailed Dan Rather's career, has gotten the greenlight to begin shooting this fall. Brett Ratner's RatPac Entertainment and Echo Lake Entertainment will finance the movie, starring Robert Redford as the iconic news anchor and Cate Blanchett as Mary Mapes, Rather's producer. At the same time, FilmNation has come aboard to represent international rights and will pre-sell the project to foreign buyers at the Toronto Film Festival, which kicks off Thursday night (based on the cast, it's sure to whet appetites). Mythology Entertainment is the driving force behind Truth, which was...

Here's something new for the birthers to chew over: President Barack Obama's passport. Says he was born in Hawaii! But the White House has strategically fuzzed out certain data, so the mystery continues. Now, it's his official passport, which means it's new, so the true believers will not be persuaded. Not that they ever would.

Jay McKinnon, a self-described Department of Homeland Security-trained document specialist, has implicated himself in the production of fraudulent Hawaii birth certificate images similar to the one endorsed as genuine by the Barack Obama campaign, and appearing on the same blog entry where the supposedly authentic document appears. The evidence of forgery and manipulation of images of official documents, triggered by Israel Insider's revelation of the collection of Hawaii birth certificate images on the Photobucket site and the detective work of independent investigative journalists and imaging professionals in the three weeks since the publication of the images, implicate the Daily Kos,...

In 2004, at the height of the Dan Rather Memogate story, I wrote in National Review: “Across the media universe the questions pour out: Why is Dan Rather doing this to himself? Why does he drag this out? Why won’t he just come clean? Why would he let this happen in the first place? Why is CBS standing by him? Why ... why ... why? “There is only one plausible answer: Ours is a just and decent God.” Well, God has not forsaken us. Dan Rather seems divinely inspired to crash more times than a Kennedy driving home from an...

I have obtained new documentary evidence regarding Dan Rather's relationship with his former bosses at CBS News. Obviously, I cannot identify my source. But he told me during a collect call from Sofia, Bulgaria, that he has access to Rather's "personal files" and that his typewriter was built after 1966. To authenticate the document, I showed it to some of my kids' friends, and they said it was awesome. Here, then, the letter -- written by Dan Rather and dated Nov. 31, 2006: "Dear CBS News: "My new career at HDNet is keeping me busier than a bordello at Mardis...

Remember those photos that have been running in the media showing a rescue worker holding a dead child following the Israeli air strike in Qana? The message of those pictures has been powerful: look at what those evil Israelis did to that poor, innocent child. Well, now we learn that all may not be what it seems. Many of those pictures were taken by the photographers for wire services like the Associated Press, Reuters and the always pro-terrorist Agence France-Presse, also known as AFP. But an enterprising British blogger decided to dig a bit deeper. He looked at the time...

In Arabic it says: ""The massacre of children in Qana 2, is the gift of Rice. The clever bombs..Stupid," Banner appeard in downtown Beirut. Fifty-two people were killed, many of them sleeping children, when Israeli warplanes blitzed the Lebanese village of Qana, triggering global outrage and warnings of retribution for a "war crime" as a ceasefire appeared more remote than ever.(AFP/Ramzi Haidar)

Declaring he “absolutely” believes “the truth” of his discredited story based on forged memos, about President Bush's National Guard record, on Wednesday's Larry King Live on CNN Dan Rather contended that “we had a lot, a lot of corroboration, of what we broadcast about President Bush's military record. It wasn't just the documents.” Rather then attacked those who dared to expose his misdeeds: “It's a very old technique used, that when those who don't like what you're reporting believe it can be hurtful, then they look for the weakest spot and attack it, which is fair enough. It's a diversionary...

September 18, 2004 Note to Custodian of Kinko's Videotapes: We Have a Time and Date Buried in an L.A. Times story on the CBS document scandal is this tidbit: Emily Will, a professional document examiner in North Carolina consulted by the network to help assess two memos related to Bush's military service, said her copies showed a fax footer with a time stamp that read 6:41 p.m. Sept. 2. The header of the fax, which presumably showed information about the sender, referred to a Kinko's shop near Abilene, Texas. What are we waiting for? We have the videotapes, the date,...

THE NEW YORK OBSERVER will report tomorrow: 'Former 60 Minutes Wednesday executive editor Josh Howard has told colleagues that before he resigns, the 23-year CBS News veteran will demand that the network retract remarks by CBS president Leslie Moonves, correct its official story line and ultimately clear his name'... In the event of a lawsuit, Mr. Howard has told associates that he would like to see Moonves put under oath to talk about his own roles in the network's stubborn, hapless defense of the flawed segment on President Bush's National Guard service. Howard has also indicated to colleagues that he...

CHICAGO -- A 33-year-old man was arrested at a North Side office and copy center after police said he asked for help in printing a computer file which contained child pornography, police said Tuesday. Bashiro O. Evans (pictured, left) was arrested Monday at 1:40 a.m. at a Kinko's business at 3001 N. Clark St. and charged with one count of possession of child pornography, said police News Affairs Officer Laura Kubiak Police were notified after Evans, of the 10500 block of South Wabash Avenue, asked people at the business to help him print a file from his computer disk which...

This is regarding your September 17 story, "Working Kinko's." You re-quoted a quote that the New York Times ascribed to me, in which I was discussing a hypothetical worst-case scenario with the Times reporter, Ralph Blumenthal. The Times inaccurately quoted me by using only half of my sentence, in a manner implying that I would condone forgery. This was a terrible misquote on which the Times honorably issued a correction this morning. I am an ethical citizen and an ethical lawyer and never ever would I condone forgery or falsification. Growing up immersed in the strong values of rural East...

"This is not about me," Dan Rather insists. Well, it's certainly more about Rather and the credibility of CBS News — now — than about Rather's intended target, the President of the United States. As just about all the world has learned, CBS has four purported memos faxed from an Abilene, Texas, Kinko's. They allege that when he was in the Texas Air National Guard, George W. Bush — among other things — (a) ignored a direct order and was grounded, and (b) generally received preferential treatment to avoid service in Vietnam. Yet regarding the memos, as a colorful Virginia...

Saturday, Sept. 18, 2004 10:55 a.m. EDT Texas U.S. Atty Mum on Plans to Probe Rathergate A spokesman for U.S. Attorney Richard B. Roper, whose jurisdiction covers the Northern District of Texas, said Friday that she couldn't comment on whether Roper's office was planning to probe the alleged forgery of President Bush's military records, which were aired by CBS's "60 Minutes" last week. "We would never confirm or deny an investigation," Roper's spokeswoman, Kathy Colvin, told NewsMax. Colvin suggested the decision to initiate a probe would more likely come from the Justice Department. "You might want to touch base with...

The guy from the Kinko's in Abilene, Texas, said to call him Coz. "Just Coz," he said on the phone, "You sound like a reporter. Are you a reporter?" You got me there, Coz. "Well, I'm not allowed to disclose the information about that situation," Coz said. He didn't have to say the Kinko's situation is the controversial Dan Rather situation. "Any information regarding anything, about the situation, if you're a reporter, we can't talk to you," Coz said. Coz also couldn't tell me how many media calls he received. What's the frequency, Coz? "Too many to count on one...
