Two black teenagers were charged Wednesday with first-degree murder in the brutal stabbing death of a 43-year-old Lee’s Summit woman who apparently had no connection to them. The two were also charged with armed criminal action and first-degree tampering. Prosecutors are seeking to have them certified as adults to face felony state charges rather than felony juvenile charges. Residents of Lee’s Summit, a conservative suburb of Kansas City that has only seen two other homicides since 2011, are reeling in shock.

Two 13-year-old Wisconsin boys have been charged with first degree murder for the brutal slaying of one boy's great-grandmother, whom they allegedly bludgeoned with a hammer and hatchet before robbing her spare change and going out for pizza. Both boys, Antonio D. Barbeau and Nathan J. Paape, were charged Friday as adults in the death of Barbeau’s great-grandmother, 78-year-old Barbara J. Olson, prosecutors said. An 11-year-old Florida girl and her 15-year-old boyfriend are accused of plotting to kill the girl's mother by setting her bedroom on fire while the woman slept, Florida authorities said Wednesday. Samantha Broadhead and Jack Ault have been charged with attempted murder and arson after the fire Tuesday in Clearwater — about 20 miles west of Tampa on Florida's Gulf Coast — MyFoxTampa.com reported.
