Several recent developments show that studies and development work of a future Chinese carrier-borne airborne early warning and control (AEW&C) continue to progress at the Xi'an Institute of the AVIC Group. These developments follow the rumor that first steel cut of a new CATOBAR (Catapult Assisted Take-Off But Arrested Recovery) aircraft carrier would have taken place at the end of June at the Jiangnan Changxing Shipyard in Shanghai. The loyal dog of a fallen Iowa NAVY SEAL that touched the hearts of millions of Americans has found a new home. Hawkeye, the dog of Petty Officer Jon Tumilson of Rockford, laid longingly in front of his master's casket at his funeral last month. Pictures of the dog's final salute spread through the internet. One of Tumilson's friends from Fort Bragg, North Carolina has now adopted Hawkeye. The same friend had watched the chocolate lab while Tumilson was deployed. A Fort Bragg spokesperson says Hawkeyes adoption went according to Tumilson's final wishes. Tumilson was one of 30 Americans killed...

Hawkeye the dog tugged at the country’s heartstrings when a photo of him lying next to his master’s casket went viral. Hawkeye belonged to fallen Navy SEAL Jon Tumilson, who was one of 30 U.S. troops killed when their helicopter was shot down in Afghanistan earlier this month. Now the Iowa Hawkeyes football team plans to pay tribute to Tumilson, an Iowa native, during one of their home games in November – and they want Hawkeye to participate by leading the team out onto the field, according to the Associated Press.

Indian Navy planning to procure 4 planes for airborne surveillance New Delhi: Looking to strengthen its surveillance capabilities and control over the maritime zone, the Indian Navy is planning to procure four aircraft carrier-based Airborne Early Warning and Control (AEW&C) planes. "We are planning to procure four carrier-based AEW&C aircraft to carry out airborne surveillance, detection and tracking of airborne and surface contacts and control air interceptions and air strikes," Navy officials told PTI in New Delhi. India Mulls Land-Based E-2D Oct 19, 2009 Neelam Mathews/New Delhi The Indian navy is reevaluating the design of its future aircraft carriers and showing interest in the U.S. Navy's Electromagnetic Aircraft Launch System (Emals), which is in development by General Atomics. Emals uses a linear motor drive instead of steam pistons to accelerate aircraft for takeoff. India uses short-takeoff-and-vertical-landing (Stovl) Sea Harriers from its current carrier, the INS Viraat, which is near retirement. The navy has been waiting some time for the refurbished Russian carrier Admiral Gorshkov, now due for delivery in 2012, and is working with Fincantieri of Italy...

Malaysia to launch contest for airborne early warning fleet By Vladimir Karnozov Malaysia could issue a request for proposals for four airborne early warning and control system aircraft in mid-2008, with funds for the acquisition likely to become available during the nation's next five-year spending plan. The Royal Malaysian Air Force has indicated a tentative requirement for a relatively lightweight, low-cost system to improve the situational awareness of its Boeing F/A-18D, RSK MiG-29N and Sukhoi Su-30MKM pilots. The surveillance aircraft should also be capable of monitoring naval vessels, it says, especially in the Malacca Straits. Candidate systems will include Northrop...

Navy turns down US' Hawkeye deal Wednesday March 23 2005 00:00 IST NEW DELHI: After weighing the pros and cons for over a year, the Navy has decided to turn down the US offer of six E-2C Hawkeye 2000 carrier-borne early warning aircraft. It was a tough decision, a senior Naval officer admitted today, as the Navy has a crucial need for such a capability, but the reasons for turning down the Hawkeye were compelling _ one being its bulky design. Instead, the Navy may look to DRDO for a carrier-based solution. DRDO is currently working with the IAF for...
