Jussie Smollett's lawyers told an Illinois appellate court Tuesday it should toss the former “Empire” actor’s convictions for staging a racist, homophobic attack against himself in 2019 and then lying about it to Chicago police, arguing that anger over the case led to properly dismissed charges being improperly restored. Smollett, foregoing his usual three-piece suits in favor of a casual beige jacket and blue jeans, slipped into court for the hour-long oral arguments Tuesday and sat on spectator benches. He seemed to listen intently, leaning forward to follow the debate before the three-judge panel. Smollett, 41, didn't speak to reporters...

A Black FedEx delivery driver who says two white men shot at and chased him in Mississippi in 2022 has now been fired from his job, he and his attorney said Monday. “I honestly feel disrespected,” the former driver, D’Monterrio Gibson, told The Associated Press shortly after he received an email from FedEx about his termination. Meredith Miller, manager of global network communications for FedEx, confirmed Monday that “Mr. Gibson is no longer employed at FedEx,” but did not respond to other questions from AP. Last Thursday, a Mississippi judge cited police errors in declaring a mistrial for the father...

Attorneys for Jussie Smollett filed an appeal challenging the actor's disorderly conduct conviction. Smollett's defense argues the conviction should be overturned because his right to due process was violated. The brief was filed just before 9 p.m. Wednesday, hours before the court's final deadline. The three-judge appellate panel had granted a fifth extension to Smollett's attorneys in January to file their arguments, but warned it would be the last. (Until the next one.) Prosecutors said at the time they wouldn't pursue the 16 counts against Smollett in consideration of his community service and turning over his $10,000 bond to the...

His memory is hazy, but somewhere within a few...

During a recent broadcast, I said that once Elon Musk takes control of Twitter, "Twitter will be flooded with hate, and a lot of it will come from people on the Left who want to show how hate-filled it is. It's like their race-hoax industry. If you see a noose on a college dorm of a black student, the odds are overwhelming that the noose was put there by a black student. If you see the N-word on a dormitory building, the odds are overwhelming that a black student actually did that. We're filled with race hoaxes." One of the...

Jussie Smollett's lawyers have wasted no time demanding his release from jail -- at least while his appeal plays out --- claiming he risks being harmed (physically and microbially) every second he stays behind bars. The 'Empire' actor's legal team filed an emergency motion Monday asking a judge to spring Jussie from behind bars while his appeal is pending -- arguing that the potential cons of him staying locked up in Cook County far outweigh any benefits. The crux of their case here is that Jussie's family has been on the receiving end of what they say is a barrage...
